cut out all discretionally spending and you are are at a balanced budget....this cant happen, so you need to tackle the non-discretionary spending as well AKA the entitlements.....

EDIT:

i want a balance budget...but it is not happening in one year. at a minimum i want congress to start at a freeze of last years budget, then start cuttings from there....

Tell us how you would balance the budget THIS YEAR. Otherwise you are "increasing the deficit".

He's always had a track record of not respecting other peoples money

He will spend millions wisely on golf carts and rooms at his
motels while not collecting a meager salary

That is wholly on Congress.

It’s a mistake to vote for people that allow outsiders and lobbyists to craft a bill that they themselves don’t have input on. This is how you spend money needlessly.

This is why Massie voted no on the omnibus. It's always going to be an excuse with them why they can't cut spending especially when they lump it all into one big bill.

did you know the country had a surplus last month? One of the bigger surpluses in recent times?

A lot of that was due to taxes (April), but with DOGE cutting waste, that contributed largely to the surplus.

That's incorrect. You can dramatically decrease the DEFICIT without a balanced budget. It will still increase the debt though.

I don't think there's any serious conservative out there who believes we can achieve a balanced budget this year, much less a surplus that would decrease the debt.

What I cannot personally accept is a budget that increases the DEFICIT further. I need to see the deficit decrease from last year to have any satisfaction that Trump or the Republican party is fiscally doing what I voted for them to do.

It's a lot easier to criticize the one doing the work than it is to do the work while everyone criticizes you.

Step up to the plate.

I would be if I were a populist democrat like him.

The big beautiful bill will fail.

Sorry for the spoiler.

Never should have been a big beautiful bill.
Whoever sold Trump on the idea was not working in his interests. Likely Speaker Johnson.

Some factions will support one element but not any others.

Other factions will love most but will call some other things a deal breaker.

It's doomed to fail on purpose.

I’m not okay with anyone increasing the deficit. But that hasn’t stopped DC from doing so for almost every single freaking year I’ve been alive. I also don’t put the entirety of the blame on the president. But he does take some by not leading (that’s applicable to all presidents). Congress is where the majority of the blame should land.

We went from 10T in debt to 37T in debt over three presidents.

So, no, not OK

why they can't go back to a 2019 pre-covid spending level is beyond me. each year the spending goes up whether there is a pandemic or not. but you gotta pay for "no tax on tips" and "no ss taxes" somehow.

I don’t believe that trump will cut the debt but he might cut the deficit

Frankly, I never thought trump was ever much of a fiscal conservative
