7. New Orleans Pelicans

Kon Knueppel | 6-6 guard | 19 years old | Duke

The Pelicans have already made substantive changes to their organization, firing David Griffin and hiring Joe Dumars to run basketball operations. The word out of New Orleans is simply not to expect the roster to look the same as it did this year.

They’ll be disappointed to fall in the lottery, but I love this slot for them if they can end up with Knueppel, a bigger shooter who is competitive and tough. He has a case as the best shooter in the class along with Johnson, and his overall game was more impactful this season. They’re right next to each other on my board. He also has more ball skills than you think, especially in ball screens, and was better defensively than he got credit for being. This works really well regardless of the direction the team decides to go in the future. Knueppel is the kind of big shooter who is almost scheme- and roster-proof.

8. Jeremiah Fears
9. Khaman Maluach

Him or Fears would be great considering the situation.

Doesn’t matter. Might as well trade it to a team that can actually develop young talent.

I'm not sure why Fears is a good move. He's a poor finisher at the basket, a poor 3 point shooter, and he's small at 180 with a small frame and will get abused on defense. Not to mention he's ball dominant and turns it over at an insanely high rate. I don't get the Fears love.

If we stay at 7, I hope Tre Johnson and Queen are there as options. I wish Knueppel was 6'7 with a long wingspan. I would have play him more at the 3-4 rather than a 2-3 where his foot speed on defense could be an issue.

KK is a pretty good player, has to have the talent around so if Zion is healthy, he can be another shooter.

Not sure on the D though.

Fears is super young. He reclassified and will be 18 years old at the start of the season. Yet he averaged over 17 points a game at OU. He’s a 6’4 true point guard that is super quick. And I believe a very good shooter. I realize what his final percentages said, but he was 85% from the Ft line and I don’t think one would watch him and say he’s not a good shooter. And of course he finished strong when the games mattered. It’s a leap of faith a bit for sure, but he should be graduating HS right now. Don’t sleep on him. It’s usually the PG’s that don’t go super high yet exceed their draft slot.

He’s my choice for 7. We need to put smart players that can shoot the shite out of the ball around Zion and Knueppel checks those boxes. He will never be a star but he could be a very good role player that plays starter minutes if he doesn’t start.

Him or Maluach will be the pick at 7.

I was hopeful for edgecomb, I honestly thought he has mathurin comparison and that's a good start at a lead guard. Uber athletic. Good defensive iq.

Fears has some John Wall in him. I like him

last 10 to finish the season:

22ppg
5ast / 2.7 TO
5 reb
8.8 FTA @ 86%
.326% 3pt
.428 FT

complaining that an 18yr old cant shoot is just tone deaf and reads that you have not followed NBA shooting patterns over the last decade

futhermore the ability to get to the FT line is one of the better future surface-level predictors for young players.

If fears can get that 28% 3 point percentage up he can be elite. His handles are crazy. Can get to the lane and finish with either hand. I like queen too. I'm taking fears over kk.

Tre Johnson is my top pick but I’m just as good with Knueppel.

I’d rather trade the pick so we can actually replace BI. If they aren’t going to make win now moves, then what’s the point of keeping Zion?
We are setup perfectly to trade with the Bucks. Doesn’t mean we need Giannis back, but we can send him elsewhere and still get back an all star. From that 3rd team Giannis wants to go to.

Asa Newel come on down to the Pelicans

quote:

He’s an all-energy big who was extremely productive at Georgia this year, averaging 15.4 points and seven rebounds as a freshman. However, his skills aren’t exactly tailor-made for the NBA. He’s a bit stuck positionally between the four and the five; scouts question whether he’ll measure to his listed height of 6-11, and he doesn’t possess a ton of length. However, he’s also not all that skilled as a shooter or ballhandler at this stage on the perimeter. The Nets would be able to develop him a bit more slowly in terms of his skill set while also giving him some playing time to let his energy wreak havoc on opposing teams.

Johnson feels like a lock for 5 but you never know once you get past 3-4ish.

I like Fears. Not sure Dumars will want a player that will take a few years, unfortunately. This team seems to always be about short term.

Based on his comments I can see him falling in love with one of the 2 bigs. I’d focus there

FWIW (and it’s not worth a lot), NBADraft has us getting Johnson.

Have Jazz taking KK (lol), Wiz with Fears.

Yeah Jake was kinda hyping him last night lowkey.

That would be a disappointing pick for me

I’d rather shoot for the stars
