Raising Cane's continues to dominate

Raising Cane’s might not sell much—chicken fingers, crinkle fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and one sauce—but it sells a whole lot of it. Last year, the fast-food chain dished out $5.1 billion worth of the stuff, its best year yet, according to 2024 financials obtained by Forbes.
That’s enough to make Todd Graves, the company’s founder and CEO, a whole lot richer. Forbes estimates that Graves has nearly doubled his net worth, to $17.2 billion, on the back of Cane’s banner results.
In 2024, the chain opened more than 100 new restaurants, pushing its total stores to nearly 900 across 42 states. But what really makes Cane’s the envy of the fast food world is just how many customers flock to each store. The chain—which ranked as the 22nd-biggest by revenue on last year’s annual QSR 50 report—rang in $5.7 million in sales per location on average. That was more than double competitors like Zaxby’s and Bojangles, and second among all major quick-service chains, behind only Chick-fil-A. Sales per store climbed to $6.6 million in 2024, per the newly obtained financials, and EBITDA is approaching $1 billion.
For all that, Graves can thank his limited menu, which helps keep costs down, and the chain’s rabid fanbase. Graves named the business after his yellow lab, leans heavily on social media and celebrities to promote it—including letting his friend, rapper Post Malone, design his own location in 2023—and has taken to TV to build his brand and highlight his community engagement efforts, including through Restaurant Recovery, a discovery+ limited series he created to coach independent eateries through the Covid-19 pandemic. Last fall, he appeared as a guest shark on two episodes of the hit ABC show Shark Tank, pitching his marketing savvy to contestants looking for an investor.
quote:
“Our next aspiration is to be a top 10 restaurant brand in the U.S. Think of the big boys—McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Subway—companies that have been open a lot longer than we have,” Graves recently told Nation’s Restaurants News. “We are going to hit $10 billion in sales, average unit volumes of $8 million, and 1,600 restaurants in all major cities and new international locations around the world. We’ll have 150,000 crew members including 16,000 internal promotes. And we’ll give back $100 million to communities. Imagine what we’ll be able to give back to our communities once we become a top 10 brand.”

They recently opened one where I live in Illinois. It was a traffic problem the first week it was open because of enormous, fifty-plus vehicle lines to the drive thru were backing up into the major thoroughfare of the town. It’s good if you’re a kid or coming down off a liquor bender or something but honestly it’s B- food.

Can be hit or miss in recent years, but I like the Cane's at Drusilla Shopping Center.

didnt that girl who's dad is the owner of the KS chiefs have canes all over her instagram last week?
also canes has taken over downtown nashville; they bought one of the large brownstones off 2nd on broadway and put video screens in every single window of the 4 story building and have nothing but giant ads that use all the windows running at night.
canes is taking over the world. will todd buy 50k shots in omaha this year ?

It's ok, but if I'm going to spend $30 on a fast food dinner for my family of 3, I'd much rather go to Chic Fil A or In n Out.

Nowadays you have to eat 2 caniacs to not be hungry anymore

You're such a fan of the go to brand for entitled white women you can't spell it right.
And somehow you've managed to group two of the chains with the shittiest fries in the US as being your go to restaurants. Not surprised.

I think Canes is really interesting just because it's a common chain food item, they weren't first with it and didn't reinvent it in a meaningful way.
I don't think they dominate in quality, service, innovation or marketing. Boring menu, bland branding, etc. But it's a winner all the same.
Don't get me wrong, I like Canes, and I think it's good and perhaps even the best among major competitors in quality, but the margins are relatively small IMO.

I've never eaten there, crazy how they can have such a limited menu and be so popular. Gutherie's does the same thing but has added items over the years.

I haven't eaten at Cane's in a long while. I decided to treat myself to some junk fast food last weekend.
Imagine my disappointment when I saw that their chicken "strips" are really chicken nuggets.
Note that the area circled in red isn't part of a large chicken strip. It is a tiny piece of chicken that was served to me as a strip.

And still no interstate accessible locations in the space between Baton Rouge and Sulphur.
It’s a crime.

Add items add cost and confusion.
If you want chicken fingers you think Canes even though 1,000 other places have chicken fingers on the menu.

I was at LSU when they first opened the store on Lee off Highland. Went there plenty on the way home from Fred’s and Boogies. I don’t eat a lot of fast food, but every once in a while I would get a hankering for some Cane’s.
Then about 10 years ago the chicken fingers got downright scrawny. Then about 4 years ago the price of a box went to $12 and a caniac went to $17. Haven’t been to a Cane’s since. Can’t swing premium prices for a sub par product.

It is still happening at stores that are many years old. Keep wishcasting for failure.
