I knew we would have a black pope from the 7th Ward. I told everyone last month this was going to happen.

The pope’s maternal grandparents, both of whom are described as Black or mulatto in various historical records, lived in the city’s Seventh Ward, an area that is traditionally Catholic and a melting pot of people with African, Caribbean and European roots. The grandparents, Joseph Martinez and Louise Baquié, eventually moved to Chicago in the early 20th century and had a daughter: Mildred Martinez, the pope’s mother.

His last name is Prevost. That’s not hard to figure out.

He looks like he has a little coffee in his cream.

I still bet he puts tomatoes in his gumbo.

A white black pope. Who woulda thunk it.

Except it’s his mother’s side that’s from New Orleans.
Martinez.

Fantastic political post, bro.

The idea that you don't understand the ramifications of an American Pope and the pride of him having LA roots, shows you need to stay out of politics.

I thought he looked a little bit creole. He’s got a mixed type shade of skin you see around NO. I saw him and thought something looks familiar.

Interesting. I knew a little about passing, but didn't know that term.

Tell me what's political about this post, please. Explain in detail.

Creole does not mean black heritage.
quote:
"person born in a country but of a people not indigenous to it," from French créole, from Spanish criollo "(person native to a locality)."
The exact sense varies with local use. Creole does not imply mixture of race, but denotes a person either of European or (now rarely) of negro descent born and naturalized in certain West Indian and American countries. In U.S. use, applied to descendants of French and Spanish settlers in Louisiana from at least 1792.

Yeah, somewhere along the way, the meaning changed to "mixed race". How did that happen, one wonders.
