The MO side is pretty shitty when you get out of the downtown KC area. The worst was when I worked for BNSF and they'd put us up in an Econolodge right by the Harrahs in North KC. Rough part of town there.

Kansas side only... been that way for a long time. It is a dreary miserable place in the winter.

I venture down to KCMO 2-3 times each month visiting various breweries, I've have never had any trouble but I'm not hanging out late at night either. As far as crime goes, KCKS is every bit as bad as KCMO but there's nothing worth driving over to KCKS, so in that regard it's really worse..

Weather in the KC area from December to late February can be anything from highs in the 30's to 60's with lows typically ranging from the single digits to the 30's. Spring and fall in the KCMO area is outstanding weather and summers can be as hot and humid as anywhere in the Deep South....you get it all around here.

Yeah. I live here, well.. by here I mean i purposefully live 40 mins from downtown. KC is huge but everyone avoids downtown .. it's infested like a blue plague. I work downtown so very familiar with it. 10 years ago cars were completely safe at our office. Now there's one stolen or broken into every other week it seems.
It's the typical reasons, black mayor, soft on crime and police cuts in the name of "racism". Crime goes unpunished for the same reasons, and the homeless camps grow because resources are spent keeping them on the street rather than keeping them off of it.
Sports success has led to popularity and growth in the city but he touts that as his own accomplishment and he very openly rides its coat tails (smartly so I admit)

When I was kid my Dad was stationed at Leavenworth in the late 80's. Back then Kansas City was considered one of the safest, cleanest cities in the nation, not so much anymore

Clarification for "stay on the Kansas side".
The Kansas City metro is made up of something like 5 counties (3 of the counties are in Missouri and 2 of the counties are in Kansas).
Kansas City, Kansas is located in Wyandotte County. Historically, Kansas City, KS has not been safer (and possibly less safe) than Kansas City, MO. I would say that not all of Wyandotte County is unsafe. The other Kansas county in the metro is Johnson County. It is one of the safer (if not safest) counties in the metro.
