3 Free agents the Saints should target following the 2025 NFL Draft

The thread title is a copy and paste of the article on Who Dat Dish

Keenan Allen
Keenan Allen would be a perfect addition for the Saints. New Orleans didn’t select a wide receiver in the draft so adding one in free agency would be wise going into 2024. Allen’s style of play complements that of Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Brandin Cooks. He is able to be a big-bodied receiver capable of making contested catches for either Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler. Regardless of who’s at quarterback, giving them a reliable option like Allen is beneficial. Allen is an established 12 year veteran in the league who has made six pro bowls. He has racked up 974 receptions for 11,274 yards and 66 touchdowns in his illustrious career. His production still remains formidable at 33 years old. In 2024, he totaled 70 receptions, 744 yards and 7 touchdowns with the Bears.
Amari Cooper
Similarly to Keenan Allen, Amari Cooper would be an invaluable addition to the development of either Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler. Cooper is an excellent route runner who has an uncanny ability to always be in a position for the quarterback to see. While under duress, he would give the quarterback a viable option for them to dish the ball too. Cooper spent time with both the Browns and the Bills in 2024. Combined, he had 44 receptions for 507 yards and four touchdowns. The five-time pro bowler still has the ability to impact an offense at 30 years old.
Brandon Scherff
The Saints drafted Kelvin Banks ninth overall but that doesn’t mean they should be done with the offensive line. On paper their offensive line looks great when slotting either Banks or Penning in at guard. However, the Saints haven’t been able to stay healthy which makes it necessary to have solid back ups. Brandon Scherff would be a perfect addition who could start on week one if someone isn’t ready or be a starting-caliber backup. Scherff had an impressive 2024 season that flew under the radar as he was on the Jaguars. The most important thing to note is that he started all 17 games for Jacksonville, that reliability is critical for New Orleans. In his 625 pass block snaps he didn’t surrender a single sack and only allowed 17 pressures according to PFF. This production is what the Saints need to protect their quarterback of the future.

Out of those 3 give me Brandon Scherff.
We already have Olave, Shaheed, Cooks... I mean you have to figure 1 or 2 of those guys will probably miss some time. But signing a WR4 seems down on the list of priorities

Same here. Scherff would be a massive upgrade at LG, even at 33 years old. Rumor is he's going to sign with the Giants.

This seems like a paint by numbers kinda article simply listing the biggest “names” in FA at this point.

Would love scherff.
You know what you are getting with him. Doesn't miss games and is a great pass blocker.

We just have to pay more now for FAs than in years past. Hopefully soon we will be a program players want to go to again.
Would say those players are waiting on the highest rider at this point.

Agree. 1st order of business is a WR

Hard to believe he’s still out there with the way teams value olineman. He must can’t a bag or maybe contemplating retirement.
I’d pass on those receivers, they are going to still want probably what Brandon cooks got.
I’d call the Packers and see if they want to unload one of their receivers.

It’s less about getting a WR4 and more about getting a bigger bodied contested-catch WR since currently we have none. I’d love Allen but understands if he doesn’t wanna do the rookie QB thing again.

Maybe bring Kenny Golladay as a camp body and see if he has anything left. Need a body like him in the WR room

Common theme that continues to pop up with these guards we covet - they’re former tackles #movepenninginside
Buddy hasn’t played since ‘22

Saints picked Fuaga in round 1 last year when he only knew RT and made him start at LT
but then proceed to pick a LT this year.

Remember when we signed Olin Kreutz?
How’d that work out?
Scherff today is like Kreutz when we signed him.
