Secretariat is the greatest thoroughbred racehorse to every live. 53 yrs after his historic Triple Crown run he still holds the record for all three races.

After he died they found that he had a 22 lb heart as compared to an average thoroughbred heart size of 8 lbs. Oddly enough his chief rival, Sham, had an 18 lb heart and in any other year probably could have won the TC on his own accord.

I was 11 yrs old when Secretariat ran these races and I watched all three live on TV. For your viewing pleasure...

There will never be another race as dominant as that Belmont…

Point Given at the Belmont was the closest thing I’ve seen in the modern era. Sucks that he gassed himself out before the Derby, might’ve won the Triple Crown if that didn’t happen.

I saw that... Isn't that amazing? I remember the coverage that Secretariat got in the media... I was 9 at the time and all my friends were talking about the horse...

I have seen Secretariat sportscentury and it is one of favorites. I wasn't alive but it had to be a spectacle to watch these events live back then...

I remember it very well. My dad in his chair acting like he was riding the horse was epic. He said “ you just witnessed history”.

That's cool to hear. Almost seemed like America was watching like it was the Super Bowl.

Sham would have won the triple crown in any other year besides 1973.

Risen Star had the second best Belmont. Would have won the TC if he wasn’t boxed in by 20 horses in the KDerby. He passed 18 horses on the back/final

Secretariats first turn in the Preakness, he made the other horses look like they were standing still.

Same.

The Apollo missions, Secretariat, and Hammerin’ Hank made our awkward years pretty amazing.

If Secretariat didn't exist, we'd probably be talking about Sham with such reverence.

American Pharaoh won the Triple Crown and the Breeders Cup Classic.

Secretariat raced in fields of 13, 6, and 5 in his TC races. AP’s were 18, 8, and 8.

Secretariat won 16/21 starts. AP won 9/11.

Secretariats most impressive feat after Belmont was the last to first move in the first turn of the preakness, overtaking fresh horses with ease.
