I'm sure this has been discussed but I finally convinced my wife to watch Lord of the Rings. After 11 years she finally agrees. We finished Fellowship last night and she asked me who my favorite character was in the trilogy and I really couldn't decide.
Legolas was my favorite as a kid just because he so OP, Aragorn is hard to argue with, the older I get the more I like Gandalf, Samwise has a strong argument as well, Theoden has started growing on me more and more every time I watch. Overcomes all of his flaws, drops the most fire pregame speech in history and dies a heroic death.
I really dont know who my favorite character is. Maybe thats one of the reasons its such an incredible story. Every character is awesome

Boromir. Wasn't perfect and in the end sacrificed himself for the chance of saving his friends. Cared deeply about family and his people.

Aragorn, but I feel that’s a cop out in a way. Like you said hard to argue with though.

Boromir, especially after seeing Return of the King extended scenes.

The movies really diminished his role and his accomplishments. But in the books, he was very capable, really punched above his weight class. Physically he was limited as a Hobbit, but still took a Uruk Hai before they were captured. Above the neck, he was probably 3rd in the Fellowship, behind Gandalf and Aragorn, as far as planning, and figuring out what was going on and what was needed.
Remember, he figured Bilbo out on his own, was aware of what Gandalf and Frodo were doing, and had already made plans for Frodo before Frodo even decided to sell Bag End. He was the brains of the Conspiracy.
At Bree, he went and did recon while the others relaxed after dinner.
I think he figured out some of the relevance of Shire pipeweed being in Isengard at the time, and he was the leader of the Shire's uprising against Sharkey's thugs.

The Witch King of Angmar
Sauron and Saruman were bitches who didn't get their hands dirty and fight!

Aragorn by a good bit. I cannot understand anyone liking Boromir. I honestly think people say this to be edgy. Dude was a total POS.

Samwise without a doubt for me.

I dislike Samwise in everything he’s in only because Rudy was just a big farce.

I just did a full rewatch and I’ll take Samwise. Remember he couldn’t even swim and almost drowned trying to make sure he stayed with his friend.

Only he was pathetic in real life and nothing played out like the movie per Joe Montana.
