What’s your biggest choke moment in sports/life?

I always considered myself for the most part pretty clutch in sports and at work. I wasn’t great at sports but felt confident in big moments. 30 years as a medic pretty sure no matter how intense the call, heart rate stayed low. But I had my moments
1) Dropped a game winning routine pop-up in HS baseball at 3rd base in a playoff game. We still won but played 12-13 innings iirc.
2) Had a firefighter conference in Dallas I went to do a training seminar on, my first time in front of 100s of people. I was going over vehicle extrication. I’d just come off the trucks and gone to administration so I was very nervous and this was not typical part of my job even in admin. I read a book about public speaking, got pumped up by my coworkers, ran and worked out morning of. Then walked out in front of almost 200 people and forgot my name. I started stuttering, sweating, and just turned on the PowerPoint and read word for word, no introduction, nothing. At the end I apologized and explained it was a first for me. Then someone yelled are you gonna go over the tools? rotflmao: I did ok through that part.

Think I was 13 or 14 in rec baseball.
2 outs, two men on, down by one or two, I believe I was the 4th or 5th hole hitter and I hit a dinker, seemingly off the plate.
Game over.

Mine is a combo of both from when I lived in Chicago.
The incident occurred in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS), with Chicago leading 3–0 in the eighth inning and holding a three-games-to-two lead in the best-of-seven series. Marlins batter Luis Castillo hit a fly ball into foul territory in left field. Cubs outfielder Moisés Alou attempted to make the catch near the wall, but I deflected it; the umpire judged the play not to be fan interference. If Alou had caught the ball, it would have been the second out in the inning, and the Cubs would have been just four outs away from winning their first National League pennant since 1945.
However, following the ruling of no interference, the Cubs' defense collapsed. On the very next pitch, Mark Prior threw a wild pitch to walk Castillo and allow Juan Pierre to reach third base. After a run-scoring single to cut the Cubs' lead to 3–1, Cubs shortstop Alex Gonzalez mishandled a ground ball that could have resulted in an inning-ending double play. The Cubs ultimately allowed eight runs in the inning and lost the game 8–3. They also lost in Game 7 at Wrigley Field the following day and were eliminated by the Marlins.
In the moments following the play, Cubs fans shouted insults and threw debris at me. For my safety, security was forced to escort me from the ballpark. Minutes after the game, my name and personal information were published online, necessitating police protection at my home. I faced further harassment from fans and the media after the Cubs' loss in the series. I apologized for the incident and stated my desire to move past it and return to a quiet life. Many Cubs players came to my defense, emphasizing that their performance was to blame for their loss. To compensate me for this treatment, the Cubs sent me a championship ring after the team's victory in the 2016 World Series 13 years later.
I sold it in 2022.

Got thrown out of a game in HS for running over the catcher twice.
The second time he was too much of a target to pass up.

Second year of tee ball. Big championship game. Our team was a huge underdog but we managed to get the bases loaded in the last inning, tying run on 1st. Two outs, I’m up. Struck out looking.

At least you didn't cry while introducing yourself

I would have instantly retired if I did that

During high school, I played junior hockey and still hold two league records: most time spent in the penalty box; and I was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody.

Freshman year of HS, I was the only freshman baseball player on the varsity team, although I mainly only pinch and courtesy ran. 4A quarter finals, before the state had a million different watered down divisions. Our senior class was loaded with talented baseball players.
We were playing somewhere way up north, almost in Arkansas. Can't remember who it was. We trailed 3-1, but were starting to get to their pitcher. I courtesy ran on second for the catcher. Pitcher picks, SS dives over my head. I look up at the cf is running into the gap. I take off and the pitcher is standing at SS with the ball.
Over 20 years later and I still see everything about that play in my mind. I never felt so terrible. We lost the game. It still haunts me to this day.

Senior year high school soccer in the state semis I got completely burned on a through ball and my guy scored the only goal of the game on a breakaway.
Once every few years I'll think about it and it'll bother me. Thanks.

Baseball 8th grade. Teammate’s dad died unexpectedly early in the season and he took a few weeks off. He returned when we played one of the top teams in the league that we’d never beaten before.
He pitches the game of his life in honor of his dad. We’re up 2-1 in the last inning. I’m at 3rd and misfield a hard hit short hop. It was a borderline hit/error. Our scorer gave it a hit. Then the next batter hits a mile high popup straight up. I call off the pitcher and then I lose it on the way down. Error. Both runners end up scoring in that inning and we lose 3-2.
I still think about it to this day.

Didn’t choke in high school, but had a “wtf” moment in a little league championship game. I played LF and opposing pitcher was my neighbor. He was one of the biggest kids in the league and could throw heat.
He threw me four straight heaters right by my chin, walked me in a high scoring game that was going back and forth. I asked him after the game what was up with the pitches so far inside. He said he was trying to hit me without it being obvious to get me back for my German Shepard biting him while we were playing basketball in my back yard, lol.

Had a fricking Cush job in medical sales and threw it away bc drugs/alcohol/mental problems. Just got laid off from a job I was only in for five months(nationwide layoff). It is tough to get my footing back in the door.
