Austin counter worker sets me straight.

This is a rant, so don't bother reading if a long OP bothers you
As part of a group party and wedding celebration, we went to an arcade in Austin. Entry was free, but each game play was $1.
As I paid for play cards, I mentioned to the 30-something year old dork behind the counter that the prices were really high in comparison to an arcade near me in the DFW area that charges $12.99 per person, with kids under 3 (accompanied by their parents) are free. It's completely open play. Bar and restaurant on-site.
He dead-panned, "Austin ain't frickin' Dallas, man. My apartment rent is $1500 a month and I have to work two jobs to afford it AND split rent with my brother. That's the cheapest rent you can find here, man."
Besides the fact this is a grown-assed man in a pimple-faced teenager's job, I've thought about what he said, now, for a few days, and while I agree with Musk that we need to continue procreating, the more people we have, the fewer and fewer residence resources we have available for those who provide the service jobs necessary for small businesses to operate. This guy's future is likely kind of bleak. I can't imagine being so unmotivated at that age that I would find myself in that dire of a financial position. Nonetheless, people need a place to call home, so when rents become so high that people working those jobs can't afford to work those jobs, then what?
These are the people the Dems go after. It's how they survive as a party with hand outs, calls for rent programs, free healthcare, yaddy-yadda, and there are more and more of these people every day. And they vote. As conservatives, we can't ignore this fact and just blame them for their life choices, but conversely, we can't force people to improve their lives.
What is the answer? What would you recommend Trump do that completely pulls the rug out from under the Dems and where people in these conditions can say, "The Dems never gave me these options. Only Trump. I'll never vote Dem, again."
Is that even possible?

The homeless people downtown Sunday morning sleeping in front of all the buildings looked pretty comfortable. Kelty tents and sleeping bags ain't cheap.

This is why Trump is hammering away at manufacturing jobs. He will finally have the opportunity to have a high paying job that doesn't require his gender studies degree

Ironic coming from a "man" playing games at an arcade

Converting office space to housing would solve crazy rents
Obviously still need some office space, but with so many hybrid or full remote companies where the office is half empty any given day, it’s a lot of wasted space

Austin is a good place to live. Housing prices reflect that. Trump doesn’t need to do anything about it.
At the local level, Austin has actually done a great job increasing the number of housing units downtown. It’s a really a model other high growth cities should follow.

Safe bet this guy works the counter at an arcade because of some combination of not finishing high school, being lazy as frick, and/or not being able to pass a drug test.

What father doesn't take his kids to an arcade and play the games with them?

When I worked for Renaissance, I had this drunk witch come in one night to get a room. After I quoted her the price, she starts bitching about how expensive it was compared to the Hilton down the street. And how her friend could hook her up on the price. I told her she needed to go the Hilton.
Moral of the story..no one wants to hear you complaining about prices. Take your business elsewhere.

What do you think that the person working the counter at this place was going to do about the payment structure of the arcade?

If your job takes a few hours to learn, you will never be paid any real money.
Your income is determined by 2 factors:
1- How much money you make for someone else?
2- How hard is it to replace you?
Sales guys make money because of #1. NFL Quarterbacks make money because of both. If anyone can be taught your job from zero to 100% in a single shift, you are very replaceable (see 2)

Housing shortage, so let's bring in more illegals to compete for said housing. Guess what happens, prices go up.

Are people who pull the passive aggressive price comparison/complaining thing while paying for whatever just not aware they are huge douches and no one likes or respects them?
Just pay and shut the frick up. You are not important enough for anyone to give a shite about or what your thoughts are about whatever it is you’re paying for. If you didn’t have to be where you are and pay what you are… you wouldn’t. But here you are…so use that limp wrist and hand over your cc already.

This guy is the perfect example of why communism has never and will never work.
Dumbass that is too dumb to get a real job and work hard vs guy that is driven and wants to get ahead.
One guy does enough to get buy
other guy works his arse off and invest his extra money.
One guy may or may not show up for work
other guy is there long hours.
There is no incentive for the hard worker to work his arse off in communism and no motivation for the slug to work any harder. They will both get the exact same pay for doing their job regardless of how well or how shitty it's done.

We need a culling of the least productive. How that’s accomplished is the question.

There are plenty of affordable areas of the country to live. I have no sympathy for people who choose to live in expensive metropolitan areas.
Where you live is a choice. Cost of Living is one of the variables.
