Why can’t Louisiana do this?
Mississippi baws, what taxes did they increase to make up for the loss of tax revenues.

The rest of the south will leave Louisiana behind. It’s a horrible combination of welfare queens and Baws at their worst patting each other on the back. I live here now and it’s a strange fricking place, and I don’t think people who live here realize how weird it is. Arrogant as hell while sliding into the gutter.
It could be so great.

Louisiana Should be the leader of the south in economics per capita with the oil, the river, and deep water ports. Our politicians have laid the wood to our state so bad that we almost have Stockholm syndrome when it comes to electing good leaders at the state level.

Also reduced grocery taxes from 7%, down to 5%, effective July 1. This bill basically shifts to a consumption tax to run the state. Instead of 5% income tax. Gas tax is also going up to repair state and county (parish to you guys) roads and bridges.

But on what? Grocery tax down, what went up? Buc-cees doesn’t sell enough gas to make up for the loss income tax.

I hope it isn't a property tax increase. Property taxes should be illegal.

I suspect something will have to give and something will have to be redone. State taxes don't have much of an effect on me but we'll how it plays out for those that will pay less but they are plenty that will pay more. Might be the political win they think it is.

Good for MS. Southern states seeing they need to do better to compete, even with each other. Looks like SC is looking to move to a lower flat tax.
Though got to ask, how much did NIL have to do with this though??

With NIL you are going to see most states reduce or eliminate state income tax. Why do you think Louisiana lowered theirs this year? I believe Mississippi was the 9th state to either eliminate it or reduce it the last year or so.

What other taxes do you suggest we raise to compensate for the loss of income taxes?

Louisiana has ~1.5M more people, but a state budget 5x-6x of Mississippi's. To get to the level to be able to make that swap, the state would need to cut a frickton of spending and that's just not going to happen without tax a massive drop in tax revenues forcing it.

A decade ago when I sat in the office of a CEO in Tennessee, he recommended Mississippi as the best place to have a business due their regulations made them the most business friendly state in the USA. When I asked about income taxes, he replied that didn't matter to manufacturing as much as pro business regs and income taxes were a nothing burger,

It's a gradual elimination of state income taxes. Between now and 2037. They lowered grocery taxes from 7 to 5 percent as well. I read they raised the excise tax on gas and I'm not sure what else to make up the difference.

They really need non-retards to move there. So, that's a good move but unfortunately for now, it's still Mississippi.

How about we look at the other side of the balance sheet and spend less? Like a responsible business or household ?

Damn son. Google the shite. It isn't hard. A consumption tax is a sales tax

Now the state to the east and West of Louisiana have no income tax.
Can Mississippi annex the Florida parishes?

You like local public schools?
You like to have local fire, police, and sheriff protection?
You like to ride on roads and bridges, instead of wading across wetlands on your feet?
You like having a court system to hold someone accountable for wronging you?
You like having a court system so that you can divorce that 3rd mistake you made?
You like having an ambulance service?
You like being able to record a land deed so that you own property and someone can't just claim your property?
I could keep going, but all of those things are just a small sample of things your local property taxes 100% fund. Remove property taxes and your life will drastically change for the worse.
