For or Against Privatization of the U.S. Postal Service

The U.S. Postal Service runs six days a week, delivering rain or shine. But annual reports from the postal service show the last two years have ended in a net loss of $16.5 billion.
Operating expenses in 2024 totaled $89.5 billion an increase of 4.8% compared to the year before.
We cannot continue to plug holes in the ship with taxpayer money. Time to let it sink completely and let the private companies compete to produce a more efficient and less costly system.

Fed Ex did this two years before I was born.
And I'm 52.

I don’t see that there’s any need for a US postal service any longer

I see Amazon, Fedex and UPS delivery trucks in my neighborhood all week long and every Saturday, seems there are a lot of vehicles/trucks running around that could be delivering the mail.

Whoever can tell me why 90% of my mail is literal trash.

Mailbox mail should be once a week at most. 99% of mine never makes it in the house.

Absolutely 4
Overall, this is an incredible grift and someone is going to provide service, at or below the USPS rates and better speed. Postal employees are extremely well compensated, better than needed for reliable mail delivery.
All one needs to do is remove 2/3rds of the mail - Junk Mail. Make it so it is VERY expensive to deliver. The USPS believes bulk mail is their customer, it needs to stop.

Certainly not much need for daily mail and what need there is could be done by private carrier. So fewer employees and vehicles etc is a start.

The Airlines , UPS, Fedex, and trucking contractors transport the bulk of US MAIL, and do a very good job.. The problem is on the receiving end, the Postal Service bureaucracy. Would love to see it privatized.

I wonder if private companies delivering the mail would put a higher rate on junk mail?

How much does it cost to send a letter through USPS?
How much does it cost to send the same letter through FedEx?
Obviously, FedEx can't do it for a lower cost.

SIAP-
We only need a subsidized government mail carrier for rural areas where the other logistic companies don't/can't operate profitably. And the USPS can still operate in a much smaller capacity in populated areas as couriers for certified mail such as legal docs.

The pearl clutches will scream to the skies about how this would be Blumpf’s oligarchy play.
Ask them what they know about postal services in Germany, Japan, the UK…

Full disclosure. I work there. It’s kinda like an electoral college thing. You have huge swaths of the country who will vote for the congressman who will make sure their meds, magazines and whatever else gets there 6 days a week. I’m on board, standing on the main deck and ready to lift sail on dogeing some of the crap I see go on. I know most of you don’t think about this kind of thing but remember again….huge swaths of territory that UPS, FedEx, etc, will not daily deliver to. Just look at a map and think trucks, machines, buildings and people. I don’t know. Maybe enough people have changed but a lot of Americans expect a daily, mandated “every address national system”. And yes. It’s still full on DEI. I think based on what I’ve seen and what they state in their own words that’s pretty much above argument. There’s still a lot of good folks but it’s not a meritocracy. Will it change? I’m sure. But I’m not gonna believe it’ll be another UPS

The USPS has turned into a flaming pile of garbage. There is no incentive to perform. No one is accountable. It is a typical government agency full of deadbeats and dumb azzes. Abolish it and let the chips fall.

I think we heat the post office. Getting mail out everyday to rural customers would never be feasible in the private sector. The government is not in the business of making money or not having a loss. Of all the things we're blowing money on the post office is small potatoes.

The only reason the Left isn't in favor of completely razing the USPS is because the USPS controls ballots through the mail.
Now why would they want an overwhelmingly liberal employee base controlling the disbursement, return and "woops, I misplaced it" flow of ballots? Hmmm.....
