When is some coach going to teach him how to play defense? The guy is terrible. Shooting 3's ain't the entire game of basketball. He should have been the one traded to Atlanta!

Too small/slight and too finesse to play defense with that frame. Destined to be a career bench scorer. The finesse part is the biggest issue. He tries but he just doesn't have the physicality to make up for his archetype.

Hawks had no desire to take Hawkins...they wanted Herb...but "settled" on Dyson Daniels.

He sucks bro. He’s a role player that needs the offense revolved around him to play well

I said it when they drafted him, it was a poor pick. They took him because he could shoot, and while he shot the ball well today, he hasn't good on the season, and they ignored the other aspects of his game.

I'm sure they tried to include him instead of Dyson

Whats worse is that they knew he had back problems and still drafted him.

I’ll have to be more patient to bump the I told you so threads for those that said Hawkins should be the pick over Whitmore. I know I got called out in some. That team is just to stacked with young talent. But when he hits the floor he produces.

When he was drafted it seemed everyone on here was fine with him just being a bench scorer.

Damn that was a horrible draft when you go back and look at it. Wow.

2023 is carried by Wembanyama right now

Scoot looks nothing like a "Westbrook meets Rose"
Miller and the "PG and Ingram" comparisons are there, but he's on a bad team & volume scoring.

Thompson twins are bad shooters, but good defensive players who will stick around for a decade+

Lively is a one dimensional big man

For as fun to joke as Black & Dick are --- they're just that.

Whitmore, Triple J, & Podz are regressing this year.

I certainly understand how folks can whiff on prospects they think will be good that don't turn out to be good.

I don't get how Scoot ever got comps to the very, very shortlist of most athletic NBA players to ever play when he looks nothing like that.

I don't follow prospects, why did he get those comps? Was he actually that explosive and athletic before the NBA? If so, WTF happened and where did it go?

I can't give you a great answer on this other than "he played well" but he has averaged

13pts/ 5ast/ 3reb/ 1stl at 19y/o to 20 y/o.

That's pretty damn good for the type of team he plays on. He is the type of player that could definitely take off in the next 1-2 years

Edit: Not sure who DVed this but I'm willing to bet they are too stupid to process he was a teenager who is on the 2nd year of his contract. I'm also willing to bet this same person didn't believe in Dyson. Only idiots have had bad opinions on 19y/o in their 2nd year.

The only game Whitmore started this year, he had a career game.

You clearly weren't around when NAW was on the team then. He also actually played defense too.

The truth is that those 30 pt games are the only reason people say Hawk sucks instead of saying he shouldn't be in the NBA.

He has also played what I call "good minutes" meaning with actual players that take attention from defenders and he still can't hit his shot 80% of the time.

If Hawk has MULTIPLE decent games in a row then I will actually think he isn't garbage but we pretty much haven't seen him put together back to back positive games in any meaningful setting.

Are fans going to take the CJ approach now and only worship him when he plays well but ignore all the other shite games he plays?

Hawkins has been super disappointing. Never heard of a 3 point specialist that shoots 32% from 3.

Seriously. We drafted him for one skill and he sucks at it.

He’s owed 7m the last year of his rookie deal. The Pels need to hurry up and decline that option before they have to use picks to dump him like they did Kira
