My son has finished his high school credits, has his first job making decent money (brought home $1,800 last month) will be starting Community College in the Fall.
But has gotten the freaking motorcycle bug and is dead set on buying one, I'm talking street bike.
I rode dirt bikes all my youth but street bikes scare the crap out of me, especially an inexperienced kid driving one.

It’s not how good a rider he may be, it’s how bad a driver everyone else may be. Too much distracted driving, texting, etc. to make it worth the risk on public roads.
Encourage him to be the windshield, not the bug. Drive as big of a tank (truck or suv) as he can.

Stats don't lie and the stats are not good for one as a daily driver. Of course I would try and talk him out of it but at 18 you know they will not listen to logic.

Is he living under your roof? If so, the answer is “no.”
You can explain to him why, and show him examples of deaths of motorcyclists, but at the end of the day he’s your son, living in your house, and you have a responsibility as a parent to make the decision.

Get a set of dirt bikes and go ride with him at Tower Trax. Maybe that will fulfill his motorcycle bug.

You don't learn unless you do. Let him do. He's 18.
Driving cars is a lot more dangerous than you think.

I hear you. I feel your pain. I probably agree with most of what you're thinking..... However, he's 18. He's going to do it if he really wants it. My suggestion is to pay for classes from a professional. Even tell him to take the classes or ***insert whatever will work***. Tell him you love him and care about his safety.

Get a SeaDoo.
Basically a motorcycle on water.

Every 18 year old ever wants a motorcycle as their first adult purchase
Next you will tell us he wants to open a bar or something

Had a good friend die at 22 on a motorcycle. The problem is most kids your son's age buy more bike than they have experience for. It leads to them riding above their level of talent.

Make sure he’s an organ donor.

Went thru this with my parents.
Got kicked out, dropped from insurance, and cell phone turned off.
Took me 3 months of couch surfing before I sold the bike.
This is one of those things where you must go scorched earth. I have had 2 friends die on bikes before they turned 25.

Primary vehicle or side hobby?

Make sure he attends a riders course(H-D dealerships have them), and has one of these…

I'm in the insurance business. I would NEVER let my kid get one. We've buried 3 clients in the last 20 years due to bike accidents

I still have my M endorsement, sold my bike over 10 years ago... have no intentions of buying another... between in car entertainment BS and mobile phones people are flat out dangerous to my health.
