Talking to a dealer about one with 23,000 miles, Toyota gold certified if that matter? They are asking in the $36,000 range. How can I expect them to move on this price?

Realistically, none. Be prepared for that.

sounds like a pretty good price.
I bought a 2019 TRD Sport 4x4 with similar mileage back in 2020 and paid $33k for it.
how much they can move will all depend on how much they have invested (trade-in given to original owner, any maintenance performed, etc.)

Buy a 2022 full size. You will feel better paying that price.

All you can do is try. Make them a legitimate offer, if they don’t take it, walk. If you can’t walk away, you can’t negotiate.

Offer them what you're willing to pay, assuming it's what you truly believe is a fair price. If they so no, walk away.
Simple as that.

Said frick it and bought a brand new loaded out 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro 4 Max for same price of used Tacoma. No way I’m paying 30k plus for a used vehicle with no warranty. Truck was for my oldest.
36 probably is a decent price for that truck

I ordered a 2025 TRD PRO Tacoma that should be arriving to the dealership 2nd week of April. My trade in value on my current 2014 TRD 4x4 Sport V-6 with 158K miles is 17K. It amazes my how well Tacomas hold their value.
Although 36K for 2023 with only 23K miles may seem high, it's priced about right. Thats practically new.

The best advice that I can give anyone when making a major purchase like this, go into it with what you can afford but also be willing to walk away without hesitation if they can't negotiate.

It's amazing what they charge new. The resale price isn't a "win", it's because they're so overpriced to start with.
I say that as a former TRD Tacoma owner. High in, high out.

you would still have factory warranty for another 13,000 miles bumper to bumper and another 37,000 miles on the powertrain.
and if in Louisiana, for a truck that new you can get a pretty good LDS extended warranty that's really close to as good as the bumper to bumper

That is a good price, depending on condition. If you go to CarMax and do a search their prices seem a bit higher than your quote. And CarMax doesn't haggle, the price is the price.

Checrk for paintwork
How does that price compare to a new one?

If the drive is over 5'10" they uncomfortable. Many will suggest a full size in the same price range.

Before buying that Tacoma, I suggest to go look at and test drive new Nissan Frontier. You probably can get a new Frontier for not much more than $36k.

True
I wasn’t really rambling about the op’s truck, more so what we came across at the dealers 2 months ago.

How much can you afford per month, that's the real question here.
