I've seen a lot of talk about LSU basketball competing for national championships. This is the kind of annual financial commitment it will take to get there, regardless of who the coach is.

I dont think we will ever spend that much. I honestly would just be happy if LSU just makes the tourney 7/10 years. Having that to watch would be a nice hold over until baseball.

Not really.

There is no reason to make that kind of commitment right now, because of who the coach is.

They also have 10 final 4's. 3 nattys since 1980. the football program isn't in the same hemisphere. This makes perfect sense for Louisville, not LSU.

throwing money at a problem doesn't solve much
I have no idea what LSU strength coach does but our team is nowhere close to being physical enough to compete in the SEC
the post play is awful and not well coached

I’m not a basketball fan but I understand growth. How do you propose that LSU basketball becomes a successful program able to compete for titles in the age of NIL if it’s not by investing a ton of money into recruitment, outside of a rockstar coach?

The problem with NIL is the only schools who will compete for titles in almost any sport are the ones willing and able to put up big NIL numbers for recruiting. It’s unfortunate but it’s reality. Of course coaching matters a lot too but you can’t coach talent. Buy talent and coach those with less talent to be good enough and suddenly you have titles.

That’s how I see it, anyway.

100% disagree.

To win a national championship you must have a great coach. Spend a fortune in the transfer portal, you’ll probably have a good team and may even make the Sweet Sixteen, but you’re still not winning a national championship with a bad coach.

In the past 40 years, Kevin Ollie and Jim Herrick are probably the only not great coaches who have won a national championship.

Baseball started Feb. 14th. Nearly all of the SEC and ACC games have been streaming on SEC+, ACC+ or ESPN+. Conference play started this past weekend. LSU at Texas is on the SEC Network tonight at 7 PM CDT.

Yes. He'd rather desperately strive for anonymous internet message board cred than admit the problem with the basketball program is glaringly obvious...LSU has one of, probably the, worst HC in the league.

It's funny how a school like Drake, with a first time D-1 HC, several new players, and (presumably) a NIL budget of probably $250k (if that), can win almost as many SEC games (2) as LSU this year (3). And for good measure, Drake even beat LSU's "big" non-conf. win (Kansas St)

Johnny Jones had a lot of "NIL" money too (it just wasn't called NIL money then). It was just enough to make him a below average SEC head coach. You can't turn chicken shite into chicken salad simply by giving a bad chef expensive chicken shite.

I agree, those are really the only two coaches who stick out.

Exactly. Nobody is saying we need to be winning a national championship. They're saying we need to be better than the conference's doormat.
