This was recommended to me. It's highly rated. I'm almost through the pilot and while it is not at all bad, I am struggling to pay attention. It also feels like they have 10 narratives going at once. Trying to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.

3 of the best seasons of Sci-Fi you'll find on TV.
Followed by 2 really good seasons.

I've rewatched a few times. S6 isn't terrible, but in comparison to the rest of the series (and considering with what they had to work with) it's less than great. Watchable, but also forgettable.

Stick through 2-3 episodes at least. It’s damn good, but slow burn at times. And need to give it some attention or else read up wiki on background stuff.

Let me put it this way...

If I tell you to read what SEK said, then you know The Expanse is worth it.

The payoff in S3 for the journey in S1/S2 is amazing. It never hits that high again after S3 imo, but still good.

I've done a few rewatches as well. When I first began, like you it didn't immediate pull me, but once it did... it's really good.

S4 was good enough (though a noticeable dropoff from S1-3). Watching S5 was mostly a chore for me, though sprinkled with some really good stretches. Never bothered with the final season, which is insane considering how well the series started.

For the OP: if you like Sci-fi, you absolutely cannot go wrong watching the first 3 seasons. After that, stop when you get tired of it.

Absolutely worth it. Thomas Jane was phenomenal, as well.

The Expanse is awesome. The pilot starts off slow but ends with a bang, and those plot lines all start coming together over the next few episodes.

It’s one of the best (if not the best) sci-fi TV shows I’ve seen. Especially the first ~3 seasons.

When they get to the Marcos story line it loses its luster but like others have said the protomolecule storyline is great.

I feel like they butchered the Marcos story, without having read the books. But Fillip and Naomi... it just dragged on and on. Way too much focus on them. And after having re-watched where Naomi is trapped on the one ship and trying to warn the others, it's better than I had remembered. Still though, too much screen time spent, imo.

Gonna wholly disagree on this analogy. It’s a top 5 sci-fi series goat

There were already four seasons out when I started it. Streaming those seasons might have been the best pure binging I've ever experienced.
The seasons that followed those 1st four didn't measure up in my mind, but I haven't binged anything else since that compares.

I did a rewatch a while back and found that episode (and season) to be much better the second time around.

I think it’s a consequence of week-to-week vs. binge viewing. Much easier to appreciate episodes like that when you aren’t waiting a week to watch the next one.

Absolutely. It's one of the best sci-series ever produced for TV, but it's more of a slow burn, like The Wire.

Season 4 gets a little clunky, but that's because it's based on the weakest book in the series.

Thanks for the encouragement to forge ahead. It's getting good.
