Did anybody see the accident at Bluebonnet and Nicholson this afternoon around 6:50pm?

I just saw the aftermath right after it just happened. I saw a silver truck with damage in the front and a black car in the grass on fire. Three St Gabriel officers were trying quickly as possible to pull the driver out trying not to get burned. I don’t know if he was unconscious or dead but the driver looked lifeless as they drugged him out by his arms.

Looks like he dead. Hopefully the person fleeing, not the innocent person hit.

BATON ROUGE - One person is dead after a crash on Bluebonnet Boulevard and Nicholson Drive following a pursuit through St. Gabriel, according to officials.
The St. Gabriel Police Department said around 6:30 p.m., a vehicle was observed as going at a high rate of speed through St. Gabriel. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which accelerated, refused to yield or stop for police lights. Later, the vehicle crashed in Baton Rouge.
Two vehicles were involved and neither of the vehicles were law enforcement vehicles, Louisiana State Police said.

I hope those stupid mother fricking St. Gabriel cops didn’t initiate a high speed pursuit over someone driving 56mph in that 55mph zone. That’s “high rate” of speed for those assholes.
I support police, but the ones in St. Gabriel are straight assholes.

Not to get too far off topic but it should be a crime to have a 35mph speed limit on bluebonnet between Nicholson and Burbank

If someone was going around 56, why would they run when they saw lights….?

It's 30mph. Yes, ridiculous.

It’s not so bad if your house backs up to Bluebonnet. Especially since most people do 40+ already on the curvy section near the houses.

Sounds like the person being chased and their passenger died. other vehicles driver went to hospital in rough shape.

It’s 30, not 35. I could maybe understand 35 or 40, but not 30.

I can almost guarantee this is probably what happened. How that department is still open is beyond me.

The way it was explained to me is that the neighborhood and the parish signed an agreement when Bluebonnet was expanded to a 4 line divided highway that the speed limit through the neighborhood area would remain at 30mph. The traffic engineers agreed, because they calculated that the average speed with that limit would be 10mph over, meaning people would drive 40, which seems to be consistent with my observations. If they made it 40mph, people would drive 50 through the neighborhood areas where there are lots of cars attempting to turn into and out of the neighborhood streets, as well as the handful of houses that have driveways directly on Bluebonnet.
I will agree that the straighaway section after Harveston should be higher than 40mph.

Most definitely. They set up right there at the parish line just past University Club South letting folks gain speed after the Bayou Paul Lane traffic light and catch them.
Of course, that precise location is the most dangerous stretch of Hwy 30. I think about three people have died in the section over the past 12 months. So initiating a high speed chase there basically guarantees a fatality. And now the death toll is 5 in the past 12 months.
(Note: the speed limit there is 50 mph now due to all the recent fatalities)

That’s not why it’s 50 but the death count on those 5 miles is more than it should be. Lots of idiots gambling with their life on that stretch all to get somewhere just a little faster.

That's a factor. Rowdy Gaudet, at the request of multiple neighborhoods along that section, asked DOTD to do a speed study. Crash data among other factors contributed to the reduction from 55 to 50.

Looks like one of the deceased from the criminal vehicle was familiar with the justice system...
A defendant accused of a drive-by non-fatal shooting pleaded not guilty at an arraignment before DC Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman on March 11, 2025.
Jeremiah Downing, 24, is charged with assault with intent to kill while armed, two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, aggravated assault knowingly while armed, carrying a pistol without a license outside a home/business, possession of an unregistered firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. The charges stem from his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting that injured one individual on Nov. 27, 2022, on I-395 Southbound at the exit of Maine Avenue, SW.
According to court documents, Downing allegedly shot the victim through the passenger window of his white pick-up truck.
Brian McDaniel, Downing’s attorney, informed the court that Downing is currently a student at Southern University and A&M College in Louisiana, where he lives with his parents. McDaniel requested the trial date to accommodate Downing’s school schedule.
Downing, present via Webex, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Parties are scheduled to reconvene on March 14.
Probably not going to show up for court...
