Women’s Pro Soccer

I know its an easy target to hate on women's pro soccer, but I have a teenage daughter who plays soccer and we try to make at least one game a year.

She doesn't have a favorite team/player, but if we are on vacation and there is a game we try to catch it.

We went to a Women's National Team game a few years ago and it was fun to see world class soccer being played up close.

The biggest turnoff for me for women's soccer is the amount of pride flags and shite at every game. That faction is a large part of the crowd, but very few (if any) of those people have kids that play soccer. I wish the US Soccer world would realize that the game is huuuge among 6-18 year old girls in America and catering to a fringe group that doesn't grow the game may not be sustainable long term. The dykes with green hair and wrapped in pride flags may show up at a pro game, but they aren't out any parks all over the country on Saturday mornings cheering for their kids

Many years ago the US National Team played at Tad Gormley in NOLA. Took my then pre-teen daughter to watch since she played soccer and was a big Mia Hamm fan. Was a nice outing and back then the pride shite wasn't being displayed or as in your face as today.

The U.S. Soccer Women's national team played the Brazil Women's national team at Tad Gormley Stadium on July 13, 2003 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The U.S. defeated Brazil 1-0.

Yeah it sucks to be around that crowd. I am a red blooded American male and I hate to see that shite in a sports crowd. Luckily my kids are better than me, they don't even notice it, and if they do we both make a snide comment then move on...

I agree with this. You can't tell me those bozo's are sports fans. They just use it as another avenue to get their message out. They had their hero in Rapinoe, and I know many of the national team players were just holding their breath waiting for her to retire so they could get away from the politics.

Everything you said is spot on. I've been to 3 USWNT matches and had a blast. One of which was an Olympic qualifier in Dallas with my cousin who was around 11-12 at the time and she was playing for a club team out there. The alphabet crowd never goes out to the fields to watch those kids play, yet those kids are the ones playing at the youth level and into HS/College. If MLS/US Soccer were smart, they'd read the room and target that audience as well as the people that take them to the games.

I have season tickets to San Diego Wave and it's a blast. I'm in the prime market for it though because the stadium is top notch, they serve the best food and beers, the experience is a blast, and they average higher than any other team (almost 20,000 per game). Couple those things with the girls not diving and being theatrical like men's soccer and Lebron, it's pretty competitive and entertaining. And for the most part, the 'others' crowd is typically only prevelant to one small area of the stadium.

I'm not sure about other teams, but Wave is averaging around 10,000,000 per year off ticket sales alone. NWSL is bigger than you think and they keep expanding.

I was flipping the channels and stopped on a match. I don't know who was playing, but the stadium was packed. The announcers were making a big deal about one of the players still being high school age.

In the stands, there were hundreds of pride and trans flags.

The product was tough to watch, but based on that match, it has a strong local following in some places.

Soccer is a much bigger hobby than outside of the southeastern states… imagine that

not really. per capita the southeast puts out more soccer talent than anywhere else. at any given point half of the USMNT is from Texas or was trained/educated by FC Dallas
