I know, I know, he's a poster here. Ate there for lunch the other day, had a catfish hoagie (it says poboy on the menu, but since it's not on poboy bread that must be a typo) and it was terrific. Fresh, very crispy catfish filets, generous portions, well dressed with a side of crispy fries (included). Service was perfect, I was in a bit of a hurry, and I was in and out in about 25 minutes.

Yes, this costs a little bit more that a burger chain, but it illustrates the difference between a chain and a real restaurant. Opie and his people have a stake in their product, do you think Skeeter and Lashonda over at Burger Biggie care? Do you think the upside down writing waitress cares? How do the chains stay in business?

I was in there Thursday and had the shrimp po boy and the wife had the chicken breast with shrimp topping? Good stuff and the tartar sauce is money.

I liked the shrimp and I'll give you credit for something no one thinks much about. The fries kicked arse as well. That in itself is worth a lot.

Good job Opie.

poor gugich.

People get pissed about flies but I've seen more roaches in Pinetta's over the years and the line will still be out the door.

Just do like I say, fork in one hand, rolled up newspaper in the other.

Because most of the world is full of lemmings.

Looks like I will be eating at Opie's soon...I am looking forward to it since there have been many great reviews...and he seems like a really nice guy.

I have learned the BR has absolutely zero concept of when something is a poboy and when it is not. There are plenty great sandwiches, subs, hoagies, etc....I don't see the need to generically place the title poboy on every sandwich. To me, its similar to the chain restaurants placing "cajun" or "New Orleans Style" in front of chicken, catfish, etc. to denote that they used a little spicy seasoning.

Opie, I will bring you up some Leidenheimer Bread.

Since, I am sure Opie will be looking at this thread...(I don't mean to hijack this thread)...do you have a menu online...the gf wanted to see it and so did I.

this practice really bothers me and has become a bit of a joke amongst my friends up here in illinois (none of them are from Louisiana and they love to give me a hard time every time we go to some generic restaurant that has something "cajun" on the menu because they know it bothers me). there are at least three local restaurants in my town that have nothing to do with Louisiana but have something "cajun" on the menu. there is one place that has a bayou burger, complete with "bayou sauce"...jesus tap-dancing christ....what the heck is "bayou sauce"...?!?!

sheesh...

He knows it was a joke, trust me. For people who know me they know this is a stretch for me but it would take roaches and rats to keep me away.

Will have to give opie a try soon..

Sweet...the place looks very good.

NONE of my BR friends have ever mentioned this place.

I am glad I found it.

he probably orders it from the guy that slays alligators in his backyard and brings his kids to school in a pirogue.

There are 1.1 million of us like that in the NOLA Metro area.

My pirogue was in the shop today so I had to swim to work, but I am in a good mood since I get some bayou sauce for lunch .

Valentine's Day for Rodin...it's looking like Opie's for lunch....the menu looks great. She likes that kind of food...and I won't have to drive to Livonia for Joe's Dreyfous.
