We spent 9 trillion on wars... for nothing. What would 9 trillion do for us now?

By shifting war spending into domestic investments, we could have:

Eliminated homelessness

Rebuilt roads & bridges and created a national high-speed rail network

Doubled energy production & stabilized fuel costs 100 new Nuclear power plants and refineries.

Fixed the power grid to prevent outages and integrate renewables

Completely solved the housing crisis

The result? A stronger, wealthier, and more energy-independent United States.

Instead, we have an Iraq and Afghanistan basically hostile towards us. Still have the Taliban. Iran is more powerful and influential.

Disagree. You can't help people that don't want to help themselves, I've tried and failed with family members. Most of those people are living how they want to live.

The rest, we agree.

Agree that it was wasted on wars, but it should have either 1) not been borrowed to start with, or 2) left with the people who earned it.

That would have made us a stronger nation.

Most of that 9 Trillion is sent back to the US in the form of defense contracts, kickbacks, military services on and on.

All the defense contractor companies hire ex military officers and politicians so it's a big game.

It profits DC to stay at war, be damned the soldiers who are killed, so the sleazy politicians can get rich.

At least just giving them the money doesn’t cost American lives in the armpit of Earth.

The USAID could have organized and implemented thousands of Drag Queen Shows in the Middle East with that money, along with sex-change surgery for 1000’s of children in Africa.

Also, let the people who sacrificed, and earned that money, keep it, rather than forcing it from them at the point of a government gun.

Flying cars that fold into a briefcase is what we’d have.

I would agree that many homeless do indeed want to be homeless. We have all seen enough interviews with individual homeless to know.

Issue is there are some who do want better. I personally know a few cases from when I lived in SLC of homeless taking advantage of a system that was in place, at that time, to help get out of their situation and are doing better now.

I know that we both also realize that there is a large bulk of homeless that are homeless because of extreme mental health issues and we as a nation have detoothed and dismantled the mental health industry. I hate to say it, but asylums need to make a comeback if we are going to clean up our streets.

Nah. Wouldn't have worked. We've put people on the govt dole which keeps them there and essentially serves to keep them democrat.

There isn't much incentive to these folks to go to work.

9 trillion for what wars and period of time?

Serious question

I agree with you, and would like to have this argument in my back pocket

We could apply it to the debt and save $400B/year in interest.

Some of you dudes seem to forget 911. We got bitch slapped.

And I am proud to have gone over there and helped remind those MFers they can’t frick with us.

If you get punched with the whole world watching, you better retaliate swift and violent if you don’t want to get punched again next week.
