Recommend me a tequila and a drink

I normally drink beer when not feeling bourbon but need to add something else as beer just doesn't sit well often as I have gotten older.
Recommend me a good tequila, $40-50 and a easy drinking, nonsweet drink.
I love some chilled DJ 1942 but need something a little more affordable for a after work drink.

Paloma - 2oz Tequila, 0.5oz Lime juice (basically half a lime), 0.5oz simple, 2-3 oz of grapefruit soda (or squirt if you’re on the cheap).
Ranch Water - 1.5oz Tequila, 0.5oz Lime Juice, top with sparkling water / soda water (preferably topochico).
For the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, Phil Ward’s OG recipe is still the guiding light for me:
1.5oz Reposado Tequila
0.5oz Mezcal
1 tsp Agave Nectar
3 dashes angostura bitters
Taken from Reddit, but they all look solid

A slightly dirty martini with a decent blanco tequila in place of gin is kind of interesting cocktail as well.

Lalo for the tequila
The absolute best.
Blanco (cost) that drinks like a reposado.
Neat, or maybe with one ice cube.
Very smooth, slightly sweet.
Should be available at total wine.

I'm a beer/bourbon/scotch guy as well but have gotten into mezcal the last couple of years. I do mezcal ranch waters mostly when not drinking mezcal neat. Don't worry about using topo, just use a less expensive sparkling water, you can't tell the difference when using mezcal. I also do a mezcal paloma but not that often. Good, inexpensive brands of mezcal for cocktails are Illegal, El Silencio, Madre and Mi Mama.

Lalo is a great blanco for around 45
Nothing better than a Paloma with fresh squeezed grapefruit, lime, and jarritos grapefruit soda

Santo Tequila. Sammy Hagar’s creation. Very good.
Basic margarita on the rocks.
Lime, Cointreau and tequila. Maybe a little Agave sweetener.

Add an equal amount of Patron Citron to this and drop a lime in so you can keep count of how many you make.
The standard yeti cup with ice then add a shot of tequila, shot of patron citron, shot of fresh lime juice and fill with Topo Chico.
Wife uses Patron silver in hers. I prefer Cazadores Reposado in mine.

I wanted tequila last weekend and the only thing we had was pomegranate juice and lime juice. Mixed with a little soda it was actually pretty good

My "secret" value tequilas.
Tapatio Blanco (the blue label).
The Tapatio has started to go up in price as it's increased in popularity. You could get it for around $30 a bottle for a while, but people are starting to charge $40+ lately around here. That starts to push it into a range whether there are other tequilas as good or better for slightly more.
I just drink it either neat or with topo chico and a squeeze of lime (I don't like the heavy amounts of lime juice that actual "ranch water" calls for).
