Tetons alternative and Yellowstone

We have a cabin booked for 4 nights in June in between Cody and Yellowstone park entrance. We have two nights prior to arriving there that we were looking at spending in Jackson Hole and seeing the Tetons. However, the lodging cost has us second guessing this decision. What would be an alternative to spending two days/nights prior to arriving in Cody? We will be coming up from Amarillo, TX by car. Thanks.

Look up The Hostel in Jackson Hole. Cheap for the area and does what you need it to do.

It depends on your driving route, but Steamboat Springs or another Colorado Mountain town would be fun for 2 nights. Steamboat has some fun river activities/Hot Springs/hiking, etc.

Look at Teton Village. we stayed in a condo there a couple of years ago and it was great and cheaper than in JH.

There's a Hampton Inn in Jackson just south of town. We have stayed there before and it is more expensive than most Hampton Inns, but its still little cheaper than lodging near the sqaure.

Depending on what you are looking to do but Pinedale is a good place for a couple days. You could get into the Wind River Range but it will probably be snow or mud up there. Thermopolis is cool for a day.
If Bear Tooth Hwy is open you could go to Red Lodge.
Personally, I would suck it up and stay as close to Jackson as I could afford to see the Tetons. The other places are great but they aren't the Tetons.

Another option may be to stay on the west side - likely in or around Driggs. If you guys are into mountain biking, Targhee is a great option. I've done that and had a great time. You look at the backside of the Tetons from the top of Targhee.
There's a decent amount of hiking around there too where you can hike up around the backside of the Tetons. Another good hike is Darby Canyon up to Wind Cave. That doesn't get into the Tetons, but it's a great hike nonetheless. We brought a cooler and some chairs that we left in the truck and lugged it to the creek at the trailhead. Dipped our feet in that cold water after a long hike.

What did you decide to do cryptkeeper ? Have you finalized your plans ?
Wife and I are going to fly into Bozeman on a Friday or Saturday, stay a night or two in Big Sky and work our way through Yellowstone and South to Grand Teton before flying back to MEM out of Jackson Hole the following Thursday or Friday. I'm looking for rental car recommendations as well as any Jackson Hole recs. All suggestions and advice are appreciated.

We stay at the Hatchet Motel. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive on the north east part of Tetons and you’re in the park in no time. It’s close to the Oxbow Bend and the sunrises there are incredible

It was our home base for 2 nights when we visited the Tetons. Probably like $200ish a night if I remember. Then in Yellowstone we drove up through park and stayed in Gardiner for a few nights at a relatively cheap hotel. But I’m one to save money on hotels and flights so I can spend more money on side adventures and where memories can be made

Plan is to make a loop from Bozeman Airport in a Turo car. I'm sure many on here have planned a similar trip. Reserve the right to stop and stay anywhere 2-3 nights if we like it. Plan is to go to Big Sky on the way back to Bozeman. Should we come back up through Eastern ID or double back the way we came and take 191 over to West Yellowstone ? Not worried about gas costs or saving a few hours drive time. All suggestions are appreciated.
