Pasture control burn

I need to burn about 30-40 acres of pasture. Should I buy a drip torch to do this or can I use a pump sprayer and light it up as I sprayer the fluids on the grass? Or is there a better way to go about this?

After you get suggestions, here, take a look at YOUTUBE eta burning a pasture and get a feel of the speed at which it all happens.
Know the moisture conditions and wind.
Have fun. It’s a really good time.
I watched our chickens attack the burnt woods we burnt. They went nuts on some bugs.
I went waaaay overkill on blowing out fire lanes. We are right by the interstate and a tiny helicopter hovered 50 yards away. We walked close to it and he shook his head. Thirty min later the fire marshal looked at my FIL and said,Jay, don’t you know you need a permit to do that? FIL said “well the ticket is cheaper than paying someone to do it.
He laughed and walked off. No ticket in mail.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Ditto on watching a few videos and getting someone experienced to help you. It’s scary how fast and how big a pasture will burn, it wasn’t mine and I didn’t start it but probably the most scared I have ever been in my life.
A pump sprayer with some diesel is all that’s needed starting the fire won’t be your problem!!

Cut your fire lanes but most importantly, burn into the wind.
If you burn into the wind it will not get away from you.

Accelerate up the top then slow back down.

You can spray the borders with FireBlock and have some on hand ready to spray in case it gets away. It’s a fire retardant liquid from TitanSource1 developed in Louisiana.

You can do a prescribed burn certification- I think you’re supposed to have it- the county agent’s office does it here.
Be PREPARED! I had one get away from me- 30 acres of pasture and about 5 acres of cane burned (and not when it needed it either) but thankfully it was early in the season (probably early March) so it really didn’t hurt it and just burned the dead leaves from winter.
I about messed my pants when it got away- it went in all directions and back towards the house. Fast.

Sometimes I’ll go old school and use buffalo chips to light my pasture burns baw!
You can fire em up and launch em into the pasture like gal dam hand grenades baws!

Firework guy taught me to keep a corn broom handy. Works well swishing out hot spots. Less work than a shovel and quicker on the small stuff.

Contact your local volunteer fire department if you have one. Lot of times they'll do it for the practice, or they may have some new equipment they want to use.

I use a metal leaf rake.

Make sure you have clear fire lanes prior to your burn. Watch the wind carefully and plan accordingly.

This is good advice if you don't KNOW what you are doing. It also relieves you of substantial liability if things go south.

Rather than rakes or brooms, get a backpack blower.

Make sure there are not any wooden utility poles where you are burning (something I may or may not have found out the hardway).
