Alabama tries to give cops absolute immunity and special trials

The belching lesbian governor who shamed anti-covid vaxers, Kay Ivey, is in favor of it. Although the bill has already faced opposition from both republicans and democrats. The police unions are of course in favor of the bill. It would increase protections beyond qualified immunity and give criminally charged cops special trials without a jury. So disgusting.

Someone wants Stormtroopers.
The German kind. Not Star Wars.

Alabama conservatives love big government.

How many police have been criminally prosecuted for uses of force in Alabama in the past 10 years?

Mee Maw isn't what I'd consider a conservative She's in the pocket of special interests..
No fan of her here.

Government needs a accountability, not immunity.
IF you want an easy job, Police Officer is not the choice. You should be highly trained, highly paid, and held to the highest standards. You are not. And it shows.

When she was elected I told a friend of mine from Bama, "I can't believe yall elected that commie"
He argued with me, but he now sees what I was talking about.
She's 80 & for nearly 60 of those years she was a Democrat. A tiger just doesn't change its stripes that late into the game.
This is an awful idea.

Four in North Alabama alone that I can think of right of the top of my head.
In all these instances, except one, the was an initial coverup. In the case involving a Madison County deputy, a man that employed and vocally supported the plaintiff ended up with three bullets in the back of his head.
I went to high school with numerous people who became law enforcement officers. For the most part they were good people, but a few were either goofy as a left-handed football bat or power hungry. One was fired for from his job for having sex with and underage girl and came he from a law enforcement family. Hid daddy was deputy sheriff, his brother an ATF agent, all dumb as a bag full of hammers.

Needless to say, but I against it.
The sponsor of the bill is a retired HPD police chief.

That checks out with my initial look. I didn’t see dozens of police officers being needlessly charged. I saw a few bad actors getting charged. I only saw one case where the officer was charged that looked even remotely questionable as to being charged.
This is a “solution” in search of a problem. Which begs the question: why?

Reagan was around 40 & was a registered Dem due to his Hollywood connections. When he got into politics he became a Republican. He was also chair of the Republican Governors Association. Wanted smaller government. Although he had some head scratchers.
First time in office, Trump was a Republican. Believes in small(er) government. As we are finding out.
Ivey is a power hungry deep state old woman & was a Dem in her ealier career. She changed to get elected. Fooled a lot of ignorant people in Bama. More government.
Don't believe me, read up.
Her stripes haven't changed.

With the female cop and her husband in Reform, AL making national news for excessive force, making up charges, and getting Reform, AL stuck with a pending 20 million dollar lawsuit…. I think they need to table this idea for a while.

The politicians and police unions are trying to kill “Permit-less Carry” (aka “Constitutional Carry”’) which went into effect in Alabama in 2023.
They are trying to pack this into the “Back the Blue” bill that you linked. Not sure why shitass AL.com can’t put 2+2 together………

It sounds like someone in Alabama wants their own personal private storm troopers paid for by the state.

I saw this on my local news yesterday afternoon and my wife could not understand why it made me irrationally angry.
