Southwest is in trouble
Whatever you think about them… their differences made them stand out. Being like every other airline will hurt them.

For the first time in its nearly 58-year history, Southwest Airlines announced it will be laying off hundreds of workers at its Dallas headquarters. On Monday, the airline announced it will be laying off 1,750 employees at the company's Dallas Love Field HQ. That number equates to around 15% of Southwest's corporate positions. Among those 1,750 employees, 11 senior leadership positions were eliminated as a result of "restructuring."

Allowing fat people to take up multiple seats hurt them.

When are the social media posts and protests going to start? Those people have a right not to be fired.

And I heard a rumor today that they were buying JetBlue

I see that Elliot investment group has successfully influenced another massive corporation
They’re trying to do the same thing at Phillips 66, telling Phillips 66 that they need to exit the midstream business when over the past two years that’s all that Phillips 66 has been investing in, to the tune of $2.5 billion

Boeing marriage has killed them. Boeing can't deliver planes and kept Southwest from scaling.
Combine that with the change in travel where business travel is still down and vacation travelers want to pay for premium upgrades.
Legacy airlines finally winning out

How ever will they recover with such staggering losses

Considering they sold off $4 billion of assets over the past few years, they pretty much paid cash for Epic NGL Midstream

Allowing hipsters with dogs to get in ahead of everyone else by claiming disability hurt them.
I’ve seen people limp on like cripples, then miraculously find healing at 30,000 feet (Praise Jesus!) and sprint of like olympiads. It’s bullshite, and they won’t do a damn thing about it.

Once at MSY I saw about 7-8 wheelchairs go in, maybe 3 go out.
Praise Jetway Jesus!
If they would cater to the business travelers and stick to their rules, they would probably be ok.
If they go to assigned seating like the plan is for next year, why would anyone pick them over any other carrier? They aren't budget anymore.

Schedule. They’ve got a lot of flights to places I go. That’s the only reason I choose them now.

I choose flights by schedule and non stop availability, price and comfort are afterthoughts
I don’t have the patience to try and build points with one carrier

Sounds like their differences made their business plan untenable???

Most things on this board are sensationalized, however, this is not. Last time I flew southwest to Chicago, half the plane preboarded with family or extra time boarding. I always upgrade to A1-15 and I was still probably the 50th person on the plane.
With their prices being the same as every other airline now, I find no reason to fly them. I still do because of the proximity to love field from where I live, but that is the only reason. They’re not a good airline anymore, and pre Covid I preferred Southwest

Elliot capital management going balls deep.

The stupid boarding process kills me and they’re never cheap anymore, so I hardly fly them. I used to take 3-4 commuter flights per week on SW and loved it.
