Want to hit Net Zero? Easy - just release WOLVES, say experts

Releasing wolves into the wild in the Scottish Highlands could help alleviate the climate crisis and reach Net Zero, experts say.

A reintroduction of the animals could help stimulate the growth of native woodland by hunting red deer, which consume tree saplings and bark from older trees.

Researchers from the University of Leeds estimate that each wolf released could lead to an annual carbon uptake capability of 6080 tonnes of CO2, making each of the predators 'worth' £154,000, using currently accepted valuations of carbon.

The study showed that a total population of 167 wolves across Cairngorms, South-west Highlands, Central Highlands and North-west Highlands would be enough to reduce red deer populations to allow trees to regenerate naturally.

The increased coverage of woodland would take up one million tonnes of CO2 each year.

This is approximately five per cent of the carbon removal target for UK woodlands that would be necessary for the UK to reach Net Zero by 2050, according to the Climate Change Committee.

I find those numbers incredibly over sold.
So trees are great for the environment. Who knew.

If they do.

Stay off the moors and stick to the roads.

They would just go around eating farmer’s livestock and then the farmer’s would be thrown in jail for killing the wolves without government permission.

Like the days of the Royal hunting privilege.

Climate change is probable real... The solutions given are about power and money, not about truly changing anything.

Of course it is. The Earth’s climate has never not been changing. Do these fools expect the climate to remain static in its current state? There isn’t a damn thing humans can do to prevent climate change.

This was already done in the U.S. a long time ago. It was at Yellowstone Park. Wolves will not overeat the deer because the deer learn to eat in wide swathes of territory instead of staying close as an obvious target. This solves the tree damage because the harm is when all the deer are eating the same acreage.

Yep, those Scots are known for sheep shagging. I bet they are all for reintroducing a predator that could take out their girlfriend.

Here's my take:
These scientists or grants they received are tied to wolves, the study of wolves, etc.
So, more wolves=more study=more money.

I do not know.

Or just turn loose about 25 baws in some Kuiu and the problem is solved in few weeks. Of course we'll need to be alllowed to shoot guns and drive 2500 pickups, not some eurotrash cars.

So you exemplify utter idiocy with that line of bullshite. There was no tree problem in Yellowstone moron. Wolves have decimated the elk and moose populations. Mule deer do not damage trees. You read a book by some leftist moron and believed it hook line and sinker. It is hard to imagine such utter stupidity. But then your avatar picture aptly sums up your lack of intelligence.
