You beat me to that.....get rid of the entire agency! Don't need it!
Simplify the tax code and end the confusion.

Some kind of simplified flat tax and you don’t need more than a few hundred.

So is the USDA. USDA guy who runs the bird depradation program in this area was on my farm talking to me when he got an email about USDA layoffs coming. I hope he makes the cut, great guy

Right in time for tax season too.

Why not unleash the IRS on illegals who aren’t paying any taxes.

It sucks, but we have to cut the fat.

Between simplification of the code and AI, there should be no need for IRS audits.
Hell they should be able to get to a point where anything an audit would catch is flagged during submission for immediate correction.

They still need someone to go through things with a fine tooth comb on site on occasion, but you are right that AI negates a lot of need for auditors.
The IRS and various state tax agency have been running Discovery programs for years to look for potential hits for things that can bring in money, using data mining to look for certain criteria.
One of the better cases of it I’m aware of was in Florida where there are specific taxes on leasing out commercial property. The state tax agency bought the data from some publications which list all the available commercial real estate in Florida and cross-referenced it against tax records to see which of them hadn’t bothered to pay those taxes.

exactly why the tax code is so fricked up
Lots of laws you can just ignore, with taxes they can tax a piece of you and vary the size of it to make you do what they want.

But then they can’t hit you for penalties and interest because you didn’t follow rules they don’t understand themselves.

It won't be that hard once Kash puts 75% of them in jail.
