Been talked about for decades. Makes sense. Will bring prices down.

Things that are $.99 will likely be $.95.

It's the right thing to do... but man I love pennies! Letting them collect here, there, everywhere... rolling them up, along with their shinier counterparts... and having some 'free' pizza or chik-fil-a with the proceeds.

Why aren’t they a dollar now?

People aren’t paying in pennies.

Tell that to the lady in front of me at the gas station who paid for cigarettes, a diet Coke, and lottery tickets in pennies

Somehow this is racist. I’m not sure yet how but I’m sure by morning they will have talking points.

There used to be half-cent coins that were discontinued and everything is just rounded to the nearest cent. Prices still technically calculate at fractions of cents and just get rounded even today. I remember buying an Arizona Tea and it being $1.03 but if I bought two of them it was $2.07, meaning the actual price of one is somewhere between $1.0325 and $1.035. They could do the same thing if the penny is discontinued and just round prices to the nearest .05

The half cent on the sales tax is what makes up the extra penny
