How Riley Leonard raised his 2025 NFL Draft stock in the Senior Bowl https://search.app/upcw9yS4okbb2EjE7 Riley Leonard

If Leonard is on the board at 3 or later, Saints need to jump all over him. He is a bigger sized Drew Brees. He is a "winner", has football smarts and commands the offense on the field. I think he does not get as much respect because his play is not flashy, but his skills and command of the game is very solid.

I have a feeling he is likely to move up to the 3rd QB in the draft though.

Or his passing issues.

I think someone on here said a day or 2 ago that Riley Leonard makes Milroe look like a good passer

Brees left Purdue with Big Ten Conference records in passing yards (11,792),[touchdown passes (90), total offensive yards (12,693), completions (1,026), and attempts (1,678). Notre Dame was hesitant to let Leonard throw down field all that often.

The Saints don't need a QB whose best attribute is crashing up the middle running the ball.

Riley Leonard was a limited passer at Notre Dame all year long. He wasn't particularly dynamic nor accurate as a passer with any consistency. How exactly is an inaccurate passer a Drew Brees comp?

I love Leonard the person and the college player, but he's not NFL material.

lol. I’ll pass on this dude and every qb in this draft probably. Leonard is trash. The only thing similar to him and Brees is he’s white.

You have to look at his actual passes in games. The ND offense was more run based because they had a great run game. That does not mean Leonard is a poor passing QB. It is actually a testament to his overall QB command because he was reading the defense on the field and making the adjustments.

If you look at the throws he did make, they were in tight windows and in a lot of long yardage 3rd down situation. That is a gamer type player.

As for the reference to Brees, he knows how to read a defense presnap and make the adjustment presnap. He goes through his route progressions and he is quick and decisive on his decisions. He places the ball where it is advantageous to the receiver, above average accuracy. He feels pocket pressure and moves in the pocket while keeping his eyes down field and not on the pressure.

Mike Denbrock just wrapped up a season with a Heisman trophy winning QB and one of the most prolific offenses in recent college football history. If he thought Riley was half the player this comp suggests he is, he would’ve featured him. He didn’t. He instead chose to feature the tailbacks. What does that tell you?

In an era of college and pro football that objectively favors the offense and QB’s, Riley Leonard, in 16 games passed for 300 yards a grand total of zero times this season. Hell, he only eclipsed 200 yards in less than half the games he played for the Irish. Only had 21 Td’s to 8 INT’s.
