with the Canadian and Mexican tariffs? I get the fentanyl reduction, but there’s got to be more right? Please help this novice out.

New trade deals and political leverage by using our economic power to put American citizens and their needs first instead of taxing our citizens and sending the money around the world for free.
Blows my mind people still haven’t figured out Trump is neutralizing globalist economic policy that’s been trying to tank the US economy and allow China to be a co superpower.

Not sure about Canada, but my assumption on the Mexican tariffs is mostly to attempt to keep big manufacturing plants in the US. Lot of manufacturers take their business down there for the cheap labor

Level trade playing field with the implicit understanding that we are North America and we provide the very foundation on which they can succeed or fail as independent countries.. we’ve grown to accustomed to taking less in the spirit of cooperation.

Everything. We might have to meet in the middle.

They need us more than we need them. Does that make it make sense?

Not sure about Canada,
Back when Trump was embarrassing Trudeau about being the 51st state, Trump was saying we subsidize their economy by like 200B.
Add border protection, and he’s trying to level that playing field.

Didn’t he already imply that it’s partial payment for all the sh!t they’ve been allowing to cross their borders? Take the man at face value, it’s not complex.

I don’t think that is the reason they are doing it. I think that China’s continued rise WITHOUT their government liberalizing has surprised and confounded the globalists (as it surprised me, frankly).
I think the reason the globalists have been using the US treasury to try to shape world governments is because they want a one-world government and, as Willie Sutton said, “That’s where the money is.”

It is jarring I know to see a President flexing the might of the US to induce changes that will help Americans

He equated the trade deficit to “subsidizing their economy”, At the time, I pointed out on here that the US ran trade surpluses from the late 1800s to the 1970s. Were we being subsidized? Of course not.
I support. President Trump’s actions here, but his rhetoric is wisely tailored to the general population which is unable to parse the actual reasons, so he uses tropes like this one.

Both aided and abetted the criminal invasion of our Nation, and that is a Conspiracy and essential attack. The cost has been extraordinary in the hundreds of billions, with much likely carnage ahead. The least they should do is pay and get punished. Severely, lest it happen again.

Some people think the nation can live on part time DoorDash gigs and that bullshite white collar cube world will survive AI. We’ve turned our economy into an inflated shell and Trump is trying to mitigate the inevitable collapse.

Ok....he is getting out of the scam game, and enforcing our mite. Canada and Mexico talk a big game, but they depend on us. Fall in line, or gtfo. We gotta start taking care of our own. Being the best in the world should not be because we take care of everyone else in the world, and neglect our own. I'm not talking about the welfare scam deadbeats out there, where one certain demographic sector remains dominant in the scam. You know who I mean if you every grocery shop.

Canada floods US with cheaper lumber?
Seems I heard our dairy may be over taxed to help Canadian producers as well. I do like Canadian maple but I can switch to local honey for awhile if need be.

Better trade status and border control or cooperation. Canada dumps lumber and oil into the US and is a major effect on those US markets.
