No but tariffs are. Anything that can be grown or manufactured in the US should be. Slave labor used to manufacture products and grow food have killed the American working class.

How else are we supposed to distinguish between imports and domestic products? I know it sucks things are gonna be more expensive since we don't produce as much but 25% and 10% isn't bad. Sorry your avocados are now $1.25 each instead of a $1 each

How do you think that's going to play out?

Pick a product. The one getting tariffs, is the loser.

Let's look at Columbia and the claims of "enjoy your higher priced coffee." And we can do this with any product, but let's start with this one.

1) Is Columbia the only supplier of coffee to the United States? No.
2) Is Columbia the biggest supplier of coffee in the US? No. Brazil is largest.

These are established facts. So if Columbia were hit with 25% tariffs, would they pass it on to the consumer? Not if they wanted their coffee businesses to stay in the US. There is competition among coffee producers. If their #1 export to the US is tariffed, then Columbia could either pass it on to the consumer and raise prices, or they absorb the price and figure out ways to be more efficient, make cut backs, to still compete in the market. A tariff on 1 country really just hurts that 1 country. Unless the entirety of product in that market comes from that country, then it will not affect prices.

So in short, if 25% tariff on Coffee, and Columbia decides to add those tariffs to the cost of their product, then that product is no longer in competition with the dozens of other coffee producing nations that are not tariffed. Get it now? Trump knows this. Which, is why it is being used to force bad actors to treat us fairly in exchange for no tariffs.

It will be far more expensive. You realize that, right?

1) Spurs domestic production.
2) Spurs competition from non-tariff'd countries within the respective markets.

Is there something in China or Mexico in which they are the sole supplier of that good to America?

I’d go with convincing US companies to quit offshoring, sure. Absolutely should have been done years ago. Make products in the USA and create more jobs.

If cheaper labor than the US is essential, then creating jobs in Mexico would reduce migration problems also.

But the every day Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck are going to be hurt by higher prices.

Why do you explain common sense economics to stupid leftists?

They won't listen to facts nor admit any falsehoods their narrative presents
