Just finished reading the book Mr. New Orleans about a French Quarter Pimp

Wow, this book was crazy! Basically a biography of a pimp, Kent “Frenchy” Brouillette, who came on the scene in the French Quarter in the late 50’s.
He claims to have been closely tied to Marcello and that crew plus a whole host of other characters including Oswald, Garrison, Edwin Edward’s, Jimmy Swaggart, and ton of other New Orleans names you probably have heard of.
He doesn’t hold back, he is spilling all the tea! Some of the stuff he claims in the book are pretty wild. I’m not sure if I believe it all but it’s pretty intriguing.
Anyone ever run across Frenchy or have any stories about him. Was quite the character, lol!

Well, for starters he provides a very detailed account of exactly who was involved in the JFK assassination. He provides the names involved, explains the plot, the rationale and even names the shooters.

I bought the book many years ago, but never got around to reading it. My understanding is that it's a fun read and Brouillette may be a good teller of tall tales, but he's not someone to be regarded as particularly credible. Sort of like a poor man's Henry Hill. He was probably loosely connected to Marcello and the New Orleans mafia in the sense that New Orleans is such a small city where everyone knows each other (especially back then) and Marcello had his fingers in a million different pots (including prostitution and anything going on in the French Quarter), but there's no reason to believe Brouillette was connected enough to know or have been involved in most of the stuff he claimed (especially about something as big as the Kennedy assassination). Just another charismatic, but low level hustler/pimp who liked to get drunk in bars and tell wild stories.

Agreed! I found that part extremely annoying as well. You claim you were that good looking and a body builder, yet you had never been with a woman until your late 20’s?! Ok man, sure…..

I really hope you are a woman or a teenage girl. If you aren’t, then slap yourself for talking like that.

I read that too. If you can find “The Last Madam” they kind of cover some of the same time frame. Her books was just as good and interesting.

I’ve been working on it for 6 months. I hate his expressions plus it’s Baby this and Baby that. I am on the JFK part. I put it down for weeks at a time.
Also, my maternal grandfather from marksville was related to him, but I’m not claiming him.

I owned an apartment house on St Claude back the late 70’s and rented an apartment to Frenchy. The woman who ran the place for me wanted me to meet him like he was some sort of celebrity. He presented himself as a Hugh Hefner wannabe. Was wearing a smoking jacket with his girls waiting on him. He dealt with Marcelo lieutenants and paid them to keep the cops off his back. He was a small time operator who was a good bullshitter and a legend in his own mind.

Eh, Pimp by Iceberg Slim is a superior book and much more believable.

You should pick up Dr. Mary’s Monkey next.

It’s a funny read when you accept its place as a book of tall tales and rumors mixed into snippets of the life of a street hustler

I knew a guy who worked out at the gym I used to go to, who was not a competitive bodybuilder, but he was not far from it. And a decent looking guy, as far as guys go (all are ugly, actually).
My SIL knew him in high school, and peripherally still. SIL says he doesn’t think the guy has ever been with a woman. I would have not guessed that, but after he told me, every time I talked to him at the gym I looked for signs, and the guy never mentioned anything that implied there was women in his life.
On the other hand, THIS guy isn’t a pimp.

They have an episode of The First 48 on Frenchy’s murder.
