Wyoming non resident Elk is up first on the 31st, then it rolls from there.

Any baws have plans to come out West this year?

As a Colorado resident, I also go with a multi state strategy to draw as many tags as I can year after year. No outfitting, all public land. I started building points in CO, UT, WY, MT, AZ many years ago. I’ve still got many years to go to draw in several of those states. Idaho and NM are completely random but I try in NM each year. Idaho hasn’t fit the schedule yet.

It’s getting more expensive and harder to draw every year, so I tell thee, why not now? Forget dreaming about it one day, DO IT NOW. Because we are under attack out here.

My plan for applications this year:

AZ: Elk - prolly won’t draw
AZ: Pronghorn - prolly won’t draw

NM: Pronghorn- prolly won’t draw

WY: Pronghorn - should draw, will take my 4 year old boy for his first experience if I do

CO: Mule Deer - will draw
CO: Elk - will draw
CO: Bighorn Sheep - prolly won’t draw
CO: Moose - prolly won’t draw
CO: Mtn Goat - prolly won’t draw

So barring a miracle I will prolly plan on Wyoming Pronghorn, and Colorado deer/Elk. Which is fine, I always try to hunt those 3 species every year, barring some unforeseen circumstance.

Any of you boys planning on coming out this year? Would love to hear plans

How much does all of that cost you?

I’ll add, I like to keep my local spots secret for obvious reasons. But if anyone from out of state wants general intel on Colorado units let me know. I can’t say I give better advice than what you can google but if I’ve been there before I’ll add what I can, same for Wyoming Pronghorn. This will be my 4th season up there, and I’ve hunted in what many would call dogshit units but came out successful

This is the year! Cashing in 22 points for 1st Rifle in Colorado unit 76 in 25! Elk are in trouble. Will do pp for mule deer Colorado. Try sheep and goat in Colorado every year but will most likely never draw. Pick up more preference points for antelope and Elk in Wyoming.

Hoping for random draw in Wyoming and Arizona in units I’m familiar with. Not planning on drawing. Plan on archery hunting in Kansas.

AZ gonna be about $190, that includes a mandatory license for $160, then $15 a point for each species. But AZ is the land of giants so to me it’s worth it.

Wyoming is off the top of my head like $300 for antelope?

Then as a CO resident my elk tag is $50 and deer is like $40. If I draw sheep moose or goat I think is maybe $300 but that’s not gonna happen is my expectation. If it does I’d return several tags to focus on that one and get my money back

NM you get your money back except for like $30 if you don’t draw

I don’t know if you think that’s expensive or not, but many guys think Western hunts are a bank buster but for the experience they really aren’t

Putting for CO elk & mule deer. Probably won’t draw as it’s only my second time.

Bought a cabin north of Craig last year, so will start putting in for elk and mule deer in unit 4 this year. Having not previously done much western hunting, I feel like I dang near need a phd to figure out all the rules, regs, seasons, draws, etc.

Sign up for OnX. With it, you get a digital sub to Huntin Fool that has draw odds, draw dates, etc.
Epic Outdoors is also an excellent service worth looking into.

I’m putting in for points in Colorado and Wyoming.
Not planning an out of state this year. Next year I’ll go for a good mule deer in Colorado or a black bear. Or both.

I’ll be doing Colorado. Went last year for the first time. Was really good experience even though we came back empty.

I think it’s unit 86. Westcliffe, CO.

How many points do you have? I have 6 pronghorn, I think I'm going to wait until next year when I get an extra 40 hours added to my leave.

Most likely another points buying year for me, except for an August archery pronghorn hunt in Nebraska.
