Any franchisees here? Know any?

It seems like you only hear about franchises when they don't work out too well. Anyone ever open a Subway and 15 years later they are like "that was the best decision I ever made".

I know plenty. My partner's dad was a Domino's franchisee for years. I've known other who jumped into a few that did not work.....for example, the word fired Pizza thing is easily replicated and hard to grab hold. In the BR market LIT Pizza seemed to survived by attrition.
I have a friend that had the opportunity to get into Jersey's Mikes. They were exploring the BR market all the way down the I-12 Corridor to Slidell. He got a bit impatient and left the deal. I think that was a mistake.
As far as Subway, if you plan is to open one you are essentially buying yourself a job and Subway will not protect you territory. The only way to make any money with Subway is to get yourself up to around 4 or more stores.

I’ve always thought a Del Taco would do well in BR. Taco Bell just sucks so badly

Southern Classic would crush in Bogalusa.

I am one.
Bought a design/cabinet/remodel franchise in two locations (SE AL and W FL).
It’s new, so there are several bumps in the road, and corporate is head strong, but I believe the business model works.
I’ve invested twice as much money as anticipated, though. Showroom almost complete.
And, I’m beginning a franchise of Cajun/New Orleans style restaurants in the UK, beginning March 2025. Starting in Liverpool.
SuSu’s New Orleans Kitchen
Planning on posting updates on TD as we begin our adventure.

I am a partner in a medical/technical staffing franchise. It's a great route to go if you do your research. It required a small investment but it's more than paid for itself. I can support my family on what I make staffing travel nurses, rad techs, and respiratory therapist alone. Considering I was a teacher making less than $50k a year before, it was best career choice I ever made
Subway is the worst.

MIL's friend is a franchise owner of 3 Del Tacos. I don't know how much he makes, but he owns a home that is easily over $1mil.

Absolutely This! And Jersey Mikes the best sub chain by far. Firehouse is good too, then Schlotzky, JJ’s.

One of my best friends was president of a company that operated, at their height over 300 Taco Bells in the Northwest, Ohio and the South. They bought the Sean Touhy Taco Bell's a couple years ago. They have since sold those 300 to private equity, He is now a partner with the same group opening 7Brew drive thru coffee stands in Ohio and Georgia. They have opened 15 this year will open 50 more in those 2 states over the next 2 years.
Scale means everything in franchising. and of course the right concept. 7B is killing it in every market they enter. Those 50 7B's will also be sold in year 5 to 8 years.

I'm a partner in three Culver's franchises (the first three in Arizona). Former neighbor owns/owned 14 Burger King franchises and the one who strongly encouraged me to get involved with Culver's. One of my best friends own five UPS stores, he previously owned 7-11's in Phoenix. Another friend started a local franchise called "Samurai Sam's" (Japanese fast food) and sold out to a local corporation. He parlayed that into owning all of the Tilted Kilt locations in the metro Phoenix area. Those are long gone and now he owns a chain of laser spa locations in Scottsdale/Phoenix.
Another friend started a popular local chain of Italian restaurants called "Oregano's" with about a dozen locations in AZ and one in CO. He sold the chain years ago to a corporation and did very well when he sold. He's back involved with the group in some capacity. Another friend was in the group that started Mastro's and a couple of theme restaurants. They sold to Landry's years ago and he made millions. He and his group now operate high-end steakhouses in Scottsdale and Phoenix (Dominick's, Steak 44, Ocean 44 and Steak 48).

Did you know, most of the gulf coast Taco Bell franchises between Mobile and Houston are owned by a couple from Morgan City, Louisiana? They have over 190 franchises. It is called B&G Foods Enterprises. Their offices are still in Morgan City, LA.

My brother inlaw opened a firehouse un a high traffic location and it didn't really make him anything other than a full time job. Love the subs but the franchise makes the owner dozens of dollars.

Jealous that some boomer in the 70s probably got all those Taco Bells for like 300 bucks but now it probably costs 5 million to buy a taco bell
I probably would’ve gotten baja blast poisoning

Scooter’s Coffee
One of these just popped up nearby me in Grayson GA. It's a block from a Starbucks and a McDonalds. Seems an odd hill to die on. Lots of traffic on the main road there though. As a coffee shop franchisee I wouldn't want to set up shop across the street from that level of existing competition. I wish them well, but seems foolish.

I know a guy who has several KFCs in Georgia and is doing well.

A friend of mine from college manages 4-5 sports clips type of hair cut locations. His dad is the owner and has owned them for years. No idea how well they’re doing exactly but both dad/mom and son live in fairly large houses out by the Met in Hoover.

Just sod 2 franchises. Bought into a different franchise with the proceeds. Wanted something different.
Franchises, provided you pick a good one, can be a great way to get expertise and support if you’re not already very familiar with that particular business
Neither are in the food industry. That’s a tough racket with low margins.
