Not to be an arse but would you expect one of these wildfires to be anything other than terrifying?

Saw and posted this a couple of days ago. How they waited so long and why they were FILMING that on their damn phone, I can't fathom. Seriously, it doesn't register.

Humans have had a natural instinct to run from wildfires since before we were human. All animals run from smoke and fire.

And they've kept the dog there too???

Officially, there's not been any great loss of life, so there's a chance they got out? Hope so.

It's not like I expected it to be a well controlled campfire. I've never seen one except from video taken from choppers, drones, etc. Having it be right in your face like this gives an entirely different perspective on what the residents and firefighters are facing.

Not buying that. The intense heat would've melted something on his patio. Besides, the dogs looked completely normal and not lethargic

looks like that fire was in canyon below/back of his house
my guess is he was aware that he could still get out and was just waiting till last possible time to leave

I've seen a few comments on it.

One was people were told to shelter in place because people were blocking egress from places closer to the fire. Fire then spread rapidly.

Also, he waited there because emergency responders told him they were in the way and eventually saved them all.

Someone also commented the house appears to have outside sprinkler fire protection but I couldn't tell.

This video is from a couple of nights ago. I'm pretty sure it's known that he and his dog made it out fine.

Even if it did, it was missing one pretty vital ingredient to fight fires.....

So, shelter in place. Where to go in the house?

Chimney? Lots of web towels and blankets is the best I can come up with.

That’s awful but it seems there is nothing to burn in his yard and the only thing his home will deal with is the intense heat. Maybe there is nothing on the other side of his house, 180°, but a stone cliff and the fire will not jump to there.
