Seems pretty bad if you are following it.
Lots of homes in the wealthy neighborhood of pacific palisades are gone
Entire community of pacific palisades and Santa Monica are under mandatory evac
Logistical nightmare as well as parts of sunset blvd are shut down. Hundreds of cars just sitting there since people were forced to abandon to escape flames

If a person there is at risk, they can walk down into the concrete ravine where the L.A. River used to be. Nothing flammable and the smoke will pass overhead.

According to CalFire, none of Santa Monica is under any evacuation.
In addition the City of Santa Monica site says (updated 3:22 local time) "There is currently no threat to Santa Monica and no evacuation orders within the city." Of course, that could change.
But yes, PacPal is in trouble.

Another Santa Ana wind event, and it isn't even at its worst yet. Tomorrow and Thursday will be about as bad a fire day as it gets for them.

My sister lives on the edge of Santa Monica. Didn't even pack she got out of there so fast. She's pretty convinced her house is going to burn down but at least she's renting and it won't ruin her if it happens.

When I was living in SoCal, and Malibu went up, I could see the orange glow from my patio at night all the way in Hermosa Beach. Went to Venice while that was going on and could really see it even during the day.
Malibu and Pacific Palisades are both full of kindling for fires. Environmentalists cry and fight to prevent proper maintenance and you get this.
I was also there when Anaheim caught on fire. Hermosa is over an hour away from Anaheim but still remember getting ash from it

this is insane to see a wildfire raging through a major city.

California politicians caused this, frankly.
Florida has more forest area and hardly has any wildfires. It’s because they maintain their forests and have controlled burns annually.
California stopped controlled burns around the 80s due to environmental concerns. Now every fire they have gets out of hand.

I don’t remember this one but you kind of get accustomed to fire season out there too.

Yeah but it’s also apples to oranges from an environmental standpoint. Florida has more rain, humidity and doesn’t have Santa Ana winds.

I can tell you’ve never been near a fire or fought one

There's a shite ton of brush all along the outskirts of LA in suburban areas, this unfortunately happens every year.
Fires have never ripped through the middle of the urban center, however.

Dammit. I have a client that lives in Pacific Palisades. I hope they are ok. Beautiful area.
