My Dad is in bad shape UPDATE: My Dad, my Hero passed away today.

I don't typically talk about personal stuff, but here goes.
My Dad (87) had a nasty fall in the Calvin's IGA parking lot on Sunday causing a fractured skull and a brain bleed. He is in OLOL ICU. The scans show minimal swelling, so surgery is not recommended at this time.he has had a couple of seizures with no history, so they are monitoring that as well. He is intubated and sedated. I understand that the best case scenario is a month's long recovery. I don't care to entertain the worst case.
We had to force my mother, who is in early stages of dementia, to go home, because she needed rest and a bath. They love each other so much she would have spent every second holding his hand. I am here tonight with him.
My Dad is an old football coach and history teacher (Broadmoor in the 60s and 70s), former asst superintendent of EBR schools, and my hero.
I will update if anything changes. Hoping this thread will provide some catharsis for me.

Prayers for your father for recovery. Sounds like a great man, and a wonderful husband and father.

He raised 6 daughters, and me. I am his only son and respite from the crazy.

Prayers sent Roaad! Had grandparents around the same age go through similar situations and both pulled through. The older generation is a tough one!!

Raising 7 kids, 6 of them being girls, would seem to indicate he’s been through some shite, so hopefully this is just some well deserved rest before he’s back home running his personal circus.
It’s tough watching your parents get old and seeing them suffer. Hang in there.

Prayers sent.
I’m sure on some level, he is pleased with you being there. Keep the faith in him and his medical team.

Good luck with your situation.
Your family has been very fortunate to have had the benefit of having them both this deep into the old age.
I hope for the best outcome for you all.

Prayers for your parents that they’ll have more time together and solace for you and your siblings

This will be tough for a recovery for him at this age. He will make it through though. Expect them to keep him sedated for at least 3-4 days. Does he have a feeding tube? Until they are sure he can swallow again they will leave that in. In 7 days you will know much more. Please be prepared to offer assistance for when he gets home. No way your mom can handle that right now.

Good luck and prayers for your father. Seems he’s lived a great life surrounded by love. Hop he gets many more.
