Olympic National Park Recs

I am looking at going to Olympic National Park at the end of August. Does anyone have advice on places to stay, things to be sure to see, how to make the most of my time there, etc.? Is that a good time to go or should I consider a different park?
Will be the wife and I looking for a break from Louisiana heat. We want to find some good hiking in rain forest and see some waterfalls.

You guys should have cut this tree down as it’s blocking your view.

Yeah for sure. That probably carries the same weight as a capital murder charge in Washington state.

Enjoyed our stay at Lake Crescent Lodge.
We rented a small cabin on the lake, but they have other accommodations.
Also stayed at The Kalaloch Lodge. Right on the ocean. Really cool place.

we stayed a few nites at sol duc resort and a then at kalaloch. Recommend both (sol duc is in the forest and kalaloch on the beach). I posted a trip report here a while back.
incredible place and one I will definitely revisit

I’ve never stayed there. I stay at the campground on the river a .5 mile away, but I went to the Hot spring pools this last summer for the 1st time since covid happened and the visit schedule absolutely stinks.
Before covid you could get an all day pass. Now for about the same $ you get a 90 min window and the lifeguards were like nazis.
As a tourist it’s still a nice stop but I used to go every summer but that’s not going to happen anymore.

We camped when we went in 2021 so I can't help on accommodations, unless you want to camp.
Be sure to see:
Rialto Beach at low tide.
Sol Duc Falls
Hoh Rainforest
We skipped Hurricane Ridge as we live in Colorado so to my family it is just more mountains that they see all the time anyway, but you shouldn't skip it.
The ferry rides are pretty cool so plan that going to and from Seattle.

another vote for Kalalock lodge. Washingtong state and Olympic are incredible and highly underrated.

We stayed at an VRBO in Forks which was close to the beach areas and the Hoh rainforest- had no clue its where "Twilight" was set; if you are into that (which we weren't) there is quite a few things in the town from the movie. But its an area away from everything- very little cell signal and only a few places to eat, but the weather was great.
As the second part of our trip we hit Mt. Rainer and if I had to do it over, I would have spent more time there than at Olympic. The views are absolutely unbelievable and the town we stayed in (Packwood) was very cool. From Packwood you are very close to the north side of Mt. St. Helens which was also impressive. You mentioned waterfalls and there are quite a few impressive ones at Mt. Rainer.

Consider going to Neah Bay.
You can visit Cape Flattery, the Northwesternmost point in the contiguous United States. It’s an easy hike with a beautiful view.
Not far from there is Hobuck Beach. Another amazing view.
There are “cabins” to rent at a couple of places but Cape Resort is in Neah Bay and there’s decent food options on foot. You can walk the docks of the marina and you’ll find huge sea lions on the docks. Eagles and sea gulls begging the fishermen for scraps at the fish cleaning station.
Or it’s an hour from Sappho, on the 101 loop, if a day trip is all you can do.
If you do stay overnight make sure you have alcohol with you because it’s a dry town/county. It’s the Makah reservation.

Friend,
It is a beautiful park. I prefer Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, OR because its hiking is equivalent, its beaches better, and tropical forest better. And it is all very condensed without the need to travel within the park to see all of it. Olympia on the other hand is expansive and requires a lot of driving. I stayed in Beaver, WA while there. It was lovely. See TulaneLSU’s 18 hours in Olympic National Park for more.
Yours,

It's quite a drive to get around there. I've stayed in Seabrook, WA a few times and really enjoyed it. From there we launched a loop around. I've also stayed in the town of Poulsbo and gone counterclockwise to Hurricane Ridge. Hard to find one spot to settle down and see it all.
HOH fills up very early, and parking sucks because you end up circling for an hour hoping to snipe a spot. We got there at 7:15 and all the lots were full in the July.
Like most remote areas with national parks, the lodging is often less than luxurious. Staying in the park lodges is likely your best answer, but again. You probably need a few nights in different spots to effectively cover it.

Port Townsend is a great spot if you want to take a day to relax, eat in nice restaurants, and take in views of the water and mountains. Spectacular views and great architecture.
I went to High School there. Go Redskins, errrrrrrr, Redhawks, or whatever they call themselves, now.
