Had one of the worst meals of my life there, and that says a lot. First off, the bruschetta bread slices were like sponges soaked with olive oil. The tapenade trio was so salty that I couldn't eat it. The bone-in ribeye was downright nasty-- I've had better cuts of meat at Ryan's and Sicily's and at the Nicholls State cafeteria, where the steaks were so tough they'd bend your fork and you had to throw the fork away at the end of the meal. They screwed up my wife's order and brought her the wrong thing. I will NEVER give this place my business again, and I don't see how they are still in business. At 6pm on a Monday night, there was just us and one other table, and I can see why. Luckily I had a $50 gift card and didn't have to pay for it myself. Yet I still felt raped after I left the place.

It's a chain, no one who works there gives a shite.

I'm sure he means that since it's a chain, all of the cooks/servers are likely part time workers and don't really take pride in their work in the restaurant, therefore don't really give a shite if you enjoy your experience or not.

That pretty much explains it. As you become a more sophisticated diner you will easily see the vast difference in the chain experience and eating where a person's life dream is on the line.

I don't go often (maybe twice a year, if that), but I do like their Penne Rustica, Lobster Ravioli and Chicken Marsala.

this is not a place i go willingly; i've been maybe twice at the request of others. the first time i got the penne rustica and it was solid. the next time, service and the food were horrible; i can't even remember what i ordered.

I've never been but for the most part these types of places can only do pasta which is hard to screw up. If forced to go or just want to, stick to what they are known for which is pasta. Olive Garden etc...

I wouldn't order a steak at this joint and expect it to be worth anything.

Im guessing the penne rustica must be easy to make because its actually a decent dish there. I had some sort of chicken parm ravioli there once that was not very good though.

What's condescending about making the point that, a business where a person's arse is actually on the line, will be more likely to really want to please you, than one in which every person working in the establishment, is just part of some corporate revolving door?

i agree with you on this

i was saying that this implies that all those who eat at chains are unsophisticated. FWIW, im sorry BR doesn't have any restaurants like August.

I think it evidences a certain amount of unsophistication (I guess it's sort of hard to use that word and not sound at least a tad bit condescending) to not be able to see such a distinction.

thats what i was getting at. not trying to nitpick.

i agree that there is a big difference between the experience you get at a chain and a locally owned place. that being said, i have had some really good experiences with chains and some bad ones with locally owned ones. generally you do have a better experience at a local place, but i like to think that the majority of food board posters could not afford to eat at the locally owned establishments as they are generally more expensive. to say that chains have no place in the culinary world(not that you did) is kinda silly.

YA, does it make me unsophisticated that when i ate at Commander's last friday i would have been happy with just garlic bread and martinis for 2 hours? And that i was still pissed that they never brought out more garlic bread the whole time? one plate, said they would bring more twice, and never did. frickers.
