Any of you baws own one of these? I was cleaning some deer with my BIL the other day and he had one of these. That knife was super sharp and cut the meat like a professional butcher knife. He started telling me about it and my wife not so subtly said it was going to be a Christmas present

She ended up giving it to me tonight so I could go ahead and use it when/if needed. It's the razorbone version. I'm pretty excited to try it. The exchangeable blade part seems convenient.

What says the OB?

Update: Used the new knife to clean a deer this morning. Worked like a champ. The blades are definitely very sharp out the box. I’m a fan.

I have the filet knife, skinning knife, boning knife combo set.

Didn’t think much of it when I got it for Christmas 5-6 years ago but it’s been shockingly great. My go to for processing deer or whatever and hold an edge really well.

Go kill you a deer so you can give us an honest review. I’m in need of a new skinning knife.

I’ve used Havalons for years. Similar. Be careful. Sharp.

Outdoor edge blades are a lot thicker than Havalons. A friend almost lost an eye when a Avalon blade snapped while cleaning a deer and came back at him.

Yeah I have that one in your post as well as the first model that came out. They were both gifts and even though I’m somewhat of a knife snob with and rotate between several different brands (benchmade/zt/homemade) they are solid and being able to swap a blade is nice when processing several deer at a time.
Get a spyderco angel sharpener and swap blades when in a hurry but then sharpen them when bored, I’m still on my first 2-3 blades and never have thrown one away in 5-7 years I have used them.
Another great knife for the money 15$ or so is a mora, I use it for everything it stays in the door of my truck and I can’t kill it.

There’s no way I’m sharpening an outdoor edge blade. They’re too cheap for all that. I clean a deer and toss the blade every time.
I’ve had mine for years, and I’ll always have one. I thought I lost it this year and was planning to buy a new one but found it under a pack of zip ties in my truck door. I like sharpening my knives, even sharpen my broadheads, but it’s too simple to just swap those blades out.

They’re really nice to have but it can be a pain to remember what blades you need when you think about buying more, so there are times when I’ve just used a regular arse knife cause I didn’t keep up with it. It becomes another thing you have to continually remember to stock up on, like thermacell refills and heater butane, but you’ll miss it when you don’t have it.

I have two and love them. One has a gut hook and the other is the regular blade.

Love mine. The curved hook part is awesome too. I even use it to pull the hide away from the deer.

Be careful if its havalon blades. I've had a few of them break off in the deer and while skinning. Super sharp but have had some scares with them.

I have and use the Havalon. I guess I'm old school because I still prefer the Dexter beef skinner. I find if you have hot water that washing the blade to get the fat and stuff off so it really does not need to be rehoned, or sharpened. We keep an old Truefuel bottle to put the old blades in.

I’ve got a MKC Whitetail knife and my hot take is that I rather the outdoor edge knife. The MKC knife is obviously more durable and will last forever, but as far as just always having a really sharp knife with no upkeep, the disposable blades are the way to go.

I had one in my cart a while back and when I went to checkout it was sold out. Didn’t need it but a mkc in magnacut and a Chris reeve folder will be my next purchases.
Sharpening knives is therapeutic for me!!

Same here and I don’t regret getting it, but if you aren’t a knife enthusiast, it’s waaaaaay more than it’s worth. It’s like buying a F250 platinum to drive on the interstate to your office job everyday

Also, good MKC models can sell out in an hour. When you find one you like, I suggest putting it in your cart and setting a timer for the drop time and purchasing immediately. It’s some really limited drops and they’ve never really been transparent to how many is in stock. When people ask they basically say they aren’t going to disclose that to the public

I’m a fan. I have 3 different knives. Filet, knife/gut hook combo, and a single blade that you can swap out the different style blades.

I actually sharpen my blades through the season and just swap them out afterwards.

Amazing what a sharp knife can do to a deer. Very little hair transfer to meat, and can skin one in probably 10 min.
