The Biden administration has officially granted California permission to ban new gas car sales in the state by 2035.

California set a strict emissions standard that would ban new gas cars in the state by 2035, but officials needed to obtain a waiver from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to proceed with the mandate.

The EPA on Wednesday announced that it would be approving two waivers, under the Clean Air Act, that grants California permission to phase out gas cars in the state — one of President Biden's final acts pushing the auto industry into the green energy sector.

One waiver grants California's near future request to mandate that 35% of new cars and light-duty trucks sales be zero emissions by 2026 and achieve 90% below current emissions by 2027.

I hope they have fun when their power grid goes from rolling brown outs to constant blackouts and uncharged cars.

That’s one way to cut out the traffic. It will probably lower the cost of living, as most people won’t be able to go to work. New Detroit incoming

How much could this country save by just eliminating EPA? Getting rid of that cancerous agency should be on DOGE's list.

Sure, he could send it again, but I'd rather him rescind it.

They will not do it, but the auto industry should just pull out of California sales. The pure EV makers could not fill the void, so just let them suffer.

It does not even have to be an official act, just quit making "California Emissions" vehicles.

Normally I would agree with you, but automakers are slashing their EV departments because no one wants them. They are going to have to look long and hard and determine if it is worth it for them to ramp up EV production or just sell to the other 49 states.

I mean... they can only ban SALES of gas cars in California. They can't close the state border to all gas engine cars... can they? Certainly, the can't stop a resident from going to say... Arizona, buying a car and driving it back home... can they? Surely they can't do that...

Probably can’t ban them, but they can increase the yearly registration fee to something outlandish for gas cars. Kind of surprised they don’t do that already.

I'm sure they could refuse to let you register that vehicle bought out of state.

I would imagine that this will push the price of used ICE cars up around the country. The law says new cars but doesn't say that you can't buy an older used car.

They don’t care, brownouts mean less climate change or something.

They'll never do it. California law gives CARB the authority to keep moving the goalposts. This allows the politicians to grandstand and virtue signal while blaming the failure to follow through on the bureaucracy.
