I know someone that got to sit down and listen to one of the current coaches speak at an event.

- Someone asked if the staff knew who was going to be our starting pitchers for the upcoming year. Coach responded that there are 2 starter positions that have been decided on. He said he was not going to give names but both of the guys they have pegged as starters are LA natives, Anderson and Guidry?

- Schmidt has been awfully impressive so far.

- Something we already probably knew but Coach said that Paul Skenes had the leadership skills like none of the coaches have ever seen. He said if Skenes wanted to be POTUS he could strictly based on his leadership ability.

- Finally a cool Tommy Tanks story to cap it off:

It came during the Wake Forest game that he hit the walk off homer. So in the 8th inning Pearson led off with a walk, Milazzo sac bunted him to 2nd, then Crews struck out. They then proceeded to intentionally walk Tommy, and in typical Tommy fashion he let everyone know that he was not happy about it.

After Morgan got out and they were going back into the dugout Tommy started slamming his helmet, still visibly upset. Coach walked up to him and told him that he had to keep his head in the game because it wasn't over yet and asked him why he was so frustrated still.

Tommy responded "I have waited my whole life for an opportunity like that and they just took it from me." Coach said he responded by telling him he he needed to stay focused because there was still a chance that he was going to get another opportunity at some point. Sure enough, we all know what happened in the bottom of the 11th inning.

I think it's cool that Tommy wasn't necessarily mad about the result but the simple fact that they took the opportunity away from him. Turns out, coach was right and he got another crack at it, and boy did he make the most of it.

Sometimes it’s not about the X’s and O’s or the coaches.

Sometimes you just get kids who have that IT factor.

Skenes, Tanks, Crews and many more on that team just had IT.

When you look at recruiting, the art is finding those kids who have that IT.

IT is talent, leadership, discipline, mental toughness and the clutch gene all mixed in.

It's an actual 'cool story bro'. The coaches speak to different clubs and groups. They usually let their guard down and tell some very interesting stories that you wouldn't hear otherwise. If you have a chance to listen at a men's club event or charity event, I recommend going. It is almost always worth it.

problem is you never really know who does or doesn't have IT until they're put in a position for it to be revealed.

I just don’t see a world where Guidry is a starter. Has to be Shores, Anderson and Schmidt. Unless this part is a lie

If our staff is as deep as we expect it to be, I could see Guidry starting Sundays to come in and get 6-9 outs before handing it to the pen. Also, take in to account the fact that he has been strictly pitching all offseason, his FB velo has reportedly increased and his teammates have said his curve is unhittable.

N2DaWild already said he thinks Guidry is one of our starters (Friday to be specific). So I don't think it's far fetched.

Also Schmidt being very impressive is just what coach said when asked about him.

Regardless of how it starts out, I expect Schmidt to be in the rotation

I just don't think you spend that much on a resource and not use it, esp when the results are there

I'm sure they'll break him in somewhat, but he has to be at least even odds to be a starter come SEC play

Jay has said multiple times he loves having one of his best arms out the bullpen. Schmidt could be that guy this year. It would be a great way to ease him into college ball without having a starter role and then give him 2 years to start after the season.

I think Ware could also be in a role of a top arm out the pen if he doesn't get a starting spot.

They can say they have 2 weekend spots decided but the weekend rotation will be an open competition. Hopefully by the weekend before SEC starts they will have enough sample size to make the decisions as to who will start the rest of the season on the weekends.

Does anyone know if there were cuts made from the fall roster?

Trenton Lape and Trevor Schmidt are no longer on the roster.

I get what you’re saying and that’s all well and good. I’d just like to point out Lange had 17 starts as a freshmen and went 12-0 with a 1.97 ERA. Nola went 7-4 with 88/7 K/BB. Schmidt is higher rated than both coming out of high school.

That homerun was my 2nd favorite LSU baseball memory, 2nd only to the Warren Morris moment. I love football but there’s nothing like the magic that comes from LSU postseason baseball.

I jumped up and down, yelled in joy, eyes teared up, I hugged my 8 year old so tight, and just generally ran around the living room like a crazed fool for five minutes. My wife and kids thought I was insane .

They will probably cater to Guidry and give him a chance as a starter

As they should. As Thatcher should've been given first crack last season and was. It all works itself out.

Kids who can buy into a great culture set by the coaches, then also have talent. That’s important in every sport and it’s the reason why it’s so difficult to replicate success. It can all make sense on paper, but games aren’t won on paper. It’s not just won on game night either.
