I know everyone wants to complain about the season so far, so if you want to do that maybe go to a different thread. But I think Yves might have a legitimate shot at rookie of the year. At a position that was supposed to be our major weakness we have a rookie who in his last 9 games is putting up 13 points on 57% from the field while also getting 11 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.

In NBA.com's rookie ladder he just got ranked 4th behind Jared McCain, Stephon Castle, and Jaylen Wells. McCain is the favorite but has slowed down some in his last few games and is no longer starting and doesn't provide much besides scoring. Castle is a great defender who is putting it together some offensively but is still shooting under 40% from the field and under 30% from 3. Jaylen Wells is playing well and while his numbers are good they aren't spectacular.

What do y'all think Missi's chances of winning rookie of the year are? Fanduel has him at +1500 and I'm thinking of jumping on that since we still have 2/3rd's of the season left. Just for fun I calculated his numbers that if he keeps up his pace that hes at in the last 9 games for another 45 games this season he will end the year at 11.8 points and 9.8 rebounds while having about 1.5 blocks per game. At the current rate that puts him top 15 in rebounds and blocks.

What type of numbers do y'all think he would need to put up to win Rookie of the year?

He's been great so far. But we still have bigs feasting against. We just played a tight, winnable game and he had ok numbers, 7/11, but Sabonis went for 32/20. If he's going to win ROY on a losing team, he has to put up great numbers and win some matchups.

I wouldn't worry about points too much, as long as he hits 10ppg. He just needs to slightly boost his rpg and blocks. If he put up a 10+/10+/2 line, I think he'd have a good shot at it. Its not a great class, as you've shown, and lots of guys, like Knecht, are fading..

told y'all he'd be fine...

i think McClain will likely win... he'll have the best stats in a majority of the categories mainly b/c Embiid is missing so much time, so that means more opportunities for points and stuff for him vs. Castle, who has Wemby he has to be an option behind... Missi, while clearly being one of the best rookies this season, just won't have the numbers and will be on an atrocious team

I don't think he has a shot at actually winning. He's a center but not an elite one, which means 25 MPG rather than 30+ MPG. That means his counting stats won't be high enough to win. He's currently averaging 9/8 in 25 MPG.

That doesn't take away anything we are seeing from Missi, he just isn't in a good position to win ROY due to how the game is played today.

It’s just so ironic how our pre-season weakness was supposed to be C and Missi has turned that into the lone bright spot.

This is what can happen when you draft a high ceiling guy.

We weren’t sure how long it would take for him to catch on, if ever, given how Jax was semi-retarded. Especially offensively given that his strength in college appeared to be defensive / blocking.

Turns out he catches on quick.

He's everything we hoped we were getting with Jaxson. They are both athletic rum-runners and both excel as a roll man. The difference, of course, is in the toughness and rebounding.

And, of course, in the intelligence and work ethic.

Sadly I didn’t get in at +1800. Got in at +700 though.

Goes to show you summer league and preseason doesn't matter. I would have put my money on Reed to win and he can barely get on the court.

Even if he doesn’t win it. Reading about all the other rookies around the league. Hes definitely a top 5 rookie, which is pretty crazy getting picked that low and behind a bunch of other centers.

Even most of the board shite on the pick at the time lol.

Might be the only positive of the season knowing Ainge won’t bend Griff over on a desperate trade for Kessler. Only big win of the season so for. B/C we all know it was happening.

Missi now has a real chance to win this with the unfortunate injury to McCain

A lot of the board has PTSD from Griff doing picks of guys like Jax who never quite get it.

After so many different attempts at getting a center, having one pan out as a rookie was certainly unexpected.

There must have been a thousand posts to the effect of: "Griff can't pick centers!"

t'Athletic had an article on him being #2 in the betting odds currently with the 76ers kid hurt now (likely for an extended period). The Spurs' rookie was 1 and Missi was a close 2nd, now. Kind of crazy.

People knew he had potential and that he was good in college. They just figured he was inexperienced enough that his transition may not have been smooth.

TBH it also helps that we have been arse water because he got the chance to show what he could do and we aren’t hiding him as part of a run toward the playoffs.

It's even more than that. If we were good and trying to win, his directions upon receiving the ball around the FT line would be "pass it to Zion, BI, or CJ." But now, his instructions are likely "get into your bag and take it to the rim."

We can develop him better when winning isn't important, and also because our stars aren't using up all the possessions.

Castle is now coming off the bench and had another sub-par game last night. If this continues and Missi keeps putting up double doubles I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become the favorite soon. The one I’m surprised isn’t getting more recognition for ROY is Jaylen Wells from Memphis. He seems to be very solid and is starting for a really good team.
