Or are they all pretty much the same?

I'm awaiting the answer too. I've got a few good wooden spoons I use for cooking, but I'm looking for one that's deep enough to ladle out sauce, gravy, stew, etc. When I do see one that fits the bill, it's $30+. Is that the going rate or am I being a cheapskate?

I started with one that was round but after many years of stirring it is that shape and I love it

The ONLY wooden utensils I have a liking for are my roux paddle, a 12" wooden spoon and the much larger cypress paddle I use when boiling seafood.
The roux paddle gets the most work in my house and it shows. The "working end" is ebony black from all the batches or roux I've kept moving all these years while 4/5ths of it is still showing the nice cypress wood grain.
The wooden spoon is what I use for mixing dough for breads, cookies, pizza dough and such.
I actually have 2 cypress paddles shaped like small boat oars that I use for boiling seafood. They are just the right size to get under the lid handle to remove it without actually touching it with my hands and moves the seafood around with little effort during the soak cycle to turn over the seafood so it soaks evenly.

Those look cool, but the guy needs to consider changing his name to SpatulaMan. I detected no concavity in any of those items, gorgeous though they are, and I'm going to forward that link to Mrs. Silvera now for my stocking stuffers. The name change could also keep you clear of any litigation brought on by Mario van Peebles.

I have one of his roux spoons. It’s plenty concave. The pictures don’t show it though.

I'm not sure exactly the shape you're looking for, so I won't try to link to anything, but actively search for bamboo items. They tend to be much, much cheaper like for like.

my wife recently panicked about lead in leCreuset and we switched to Staubs. the bottom of the pan is a much more right angle and a flat wooden spatula is perfect.

The status of the spoon fits my cast iron pot perfectly and the grooves in the handle fit my fingers just right.
