Stop with the BS narrative about strength of schedule

Those claiming that strength of schedule doesn’t matter anymore are just drinking the coolade that Alabama, its supporters, and the talking heads at ESPN are dishing out. It’s a lazy, unreasonable, low-hanging-fruit take on the situation.
I guarantee that Alabama would have made it into the CFP in front of SMU if they finished 11-1 in the regular season just like SMU did.
Where it gets dicey is when you have a 9-3 team who claims they should be in front of a team who finished the regular season 11-1 in another Power 4 conference. If the records are the same, the team with the harder schedule is in. That’s why I don’t feel bad for Alabama, Ole Miss or South Carolina. Finish 11-1 and you’re in easily.
Don’t get shitcanned by mediocre teams like Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.
If LSU beats a quality out of conference opponent like Clemson next year and then finishes 11-1, I guarantee you we’re in the CFP over the at-large teams from the ACC and Big 12.

The thing is that people are saying “SOS doesn’t matter anymore.” but isn’t that all subjective on the committee members? It may have not mattered much to this year’s committee members (not saying it did or it didn’t just going by the narrative the past couple of days) but next year couldn’t it stand to reason that there will be some members who want to factor in SOS?
The criteria for a decision made by a group of human beings is going to be ever changing and subjective based on the people. I don’t think we can definitively say “_________ doesn’t matter anymore” when it comes to any of this.

exactly
the teams that got in handled the easy parts of their schedule.

You can't use the 'but muh SOS!' argument when you lose to Vandy and OU. You also have to win you way in.

Everyone losing their minds because Alabama got left out…..ole Miss had a better argument IMO…all their losses were by 1 score or less

The point is..... In the SEC, your strength of schedule will be just fine if you play 4 OOC cupcakes.

LSU is in if they only lose 1 and don't play Clemson.
It's just not necessary, but whatever. It's one thing to schedule tough OOC, but it doesn't need to be week one. LSU makes a huge jump from game one to game two. Most teams probably do.

Exactly. Texas had a pretty weak schedule even for SEC standards and lost to Georgia twice.

Yes, committee weighs in SOS for sure. They could not justify putting a three loss team in over a team that had made it to a conference champ game with 1 loss. Committee did the logical thing.

IMO, Bama fatigue had something to do with them being left out. The committee saw a gap where they could justify leaving Bama out and they took it. It has a lot to do with Bama's success over the last 15+ years, they decided we've seen enough of the Tide and that's that.

they lost to 4-8 Kentucky

You can't scream SOS when you lose to two 6-6 teams.
Posted on 12/9/24 at 9:43 am to cbree88
Bama lost their games to SEC opponents and scheduled OOC games with WKU, USF, Mercer, and Wisconsin, Ole Miss scheduled theirs with Wake Forest, SC plays their OOC with Clemson for rivalry weekend, it's all round robin propaganda bullshite.

Regarding SOS, the question NO ONE has answered is :
Which one is the better team?
12-1, SOS- 82, FPI- 25 Boise St.
11-2, SOS-108, FPI-13, SMU
10-2, SOS-30, FPI-11, Miami
9-3, SOS- 9, FPI-4, Bama
9-3, SOS - 46, FPI- 8, Ole Miss
Are you using the "eye test?"

SOS is a good tie-breaker and can even overcome a 1 win difference, but it gets dicey when it is a 2 win difference. This is especially true with Bama this year because 2 of their losses were bad losses to average teams.

Hopefully not. The “eye test” is 100% subjective bullshite that allows people to put whatever team they want into the playoffs as long as they pass your own personal eye test.
I don’t care if a 9-3 team passes the “eye test”. Win your games if you want to get in. If the records are equal or at least close, strength of schedule will get you in.

Of course teams have a chance to lose more games if they play a tougher schedule.
That is why I don't base teams based solely on record

You are 100-percent correct. This is not an “SEC” issues. This is 100 percent the entitled GUMPs whining that they got left out.
Where was the “SEC” outcry for Ole Miss who beat UGA by 18 and USC by 24, and who isn’t (like Bama) 3-2 vs teams with .500 or below records?
