Everything in the world went up 20% in the past year - everything except my paycheck.

My taxes nearly doubled. This isn’t sustainable for most people in this Parish.

It was in the news this summer and I started making extra escrow payments then. I actually over-estimated it, but it still sucks.

Probably because they are upping volume at the landfill, you gotta pay more for that extra stink that permeates the whole parish.

Call and inquire. My neighbor- my brother- was assessed about $60k less than mine.

Built one year apart, same size, etc. pretty comparable.

Long story short- they lowered mine to match his.

Did you protest? That is the problem, tax assessors go up how ever much they want and set the market. They then use the houses of the folks that don't protest as comps and bam everyone is screwed. If you aren't protesting then you're part of the problem.

Almost nobody in Fort Bend protests, in comparison to the population. I think it’s due to so many people that escrow; home assessments aren’t “real” until the bank tells them they have 30 days to come up with thousands of $.

Protesting in this county is beyond useless, which is why I’ll never buy a house in this county again.

What’s that old saying, “the voters get what they voted for, and they get it good and hard.”

This. Giant ripple effect. Housing experienced a huge jump, which caused property taxes to jump, which caused insurance premiums to jump, ad infinitum...

It’s the biggest bullshite tax of the rotten bunch. I still don’t understand why there’s not more uproar over property tax.

We don’t own property if the government can take it. It’s a lease and needs to end.

Every assessment I've ever gotten has gone out in the spring, usually in April. You have 30 days from when it goes out which is usually in May to file protest. The notices going out this time of year is the tax bill, just got mine last week, there is no protesting the bill.

That's the way it us most places.

I think Oklahoma counties send their notice of increases from the Assessor's office in January. You have until March 15 to fight it. The bills come from the Treasurer's office in November or December. There's no fighting with them.

Mine went up over $1,000. Should be better next year since the PARDs tax failed. That was a significant line item on this year’s tax bill. I’m paying something like $500 a year to subsidize services for other people’s kids.

The cops and firemen and teachers and dog catchers and ditch diggers and meter readers need a raise and a new car; be thankful they’re keeping you safe, bro.

20% YoY.

Those are rookie numbers. Mine went up just a touch under 44% from last year.

This 100%. The tax collector relies on the laziness of the population. You should protest every year. Protests are a lot like buying a car. You negotiate and arrive at a lower cost while others just pay MSRP.

I have a guy that I paid a few years back that charges me a small percentage of the amount he get's reduced. More than pays for itself. Lately he just sends me an email that he is working on my new assessment without me even asking. Sometimes he can't help and it is zero cost to me but most of the time he saves me money.
