Have you been to a govt office? And you think they actually do work from home????

Honestly, some of you ballyhooing about work from home being "forced" to come to work will run off all the good ones. Thats the bar? Even the good ones wont make the effort to come to work....they cant drive to work and they are the creme of the crop?
You have been in govt offices, even when required many dont show up. When they do they make you wait while they finish texting their boyfriend and then are pissed when they have to address you.
When I hear all the excuses.....I think you are replying in between sets at the gym

My cousin is a lawyer for the department of energy. They are still on COVID WFH protocol for some reason.
He’s played 2 hours of tennis after lunch every day for the last 4 years.
There’s no way you’ll get him back in the office.

I've worked in a govt office and no, I don't think that "at home" is as productive as "at the office."
Remember the Party of Massive Spending and Big Govt is the Dem party. Once the work at home US FedGov employee is enjoying that nice easy work life and good paycheck, that person is voting Dem.

You are conflating people behind a counter with people doing work.
People at a counter are the same class as retail.
What about people that work in excel or photoshop all day, or any role where there is no face to face time? Whats the point of putting a car on the road for that?

Seen this in multiple private businesses like Walmart.

I have never seen this at any government office, but have seen it often in retail establishments and grocery stores.

In private industry maybe none. My wife works 90% from home, one of my sons works 100% from home.
But they're not government employees. For government jobs I don't think a little transparency is out of order, because it's not like they're easy to fire if they're screwing off.

I wonder which jobs have the most egregious examples. Are there not automated means of tracking an employee’s productivity ? Counting meaningful tasks they perform?
If there is accurate data reflecting that someone is performing at a high level remotely, what’s the problem with letting them continue working remotely? The other ones can get back into the office.

I'll bet you can puzzle it out if you think about it real hard.
Here's a clue from your post:

I’ve been in an IRS office a couple times. No one is in the there. First time, the furniture was all mismatched and 30 years old. Second time, all new furniture that hadn’t been used once. I hate our government.

because you know, and we know, that that person is mowing the grass, playing golf, fishing, whatever, part of the time they should be working.
