Will the NFL waive the 3 years removed from high school rule & make a G-League?

I know Maurice Clarett challenged it in 2003, but the court upheld the NFL’s rule. I’m just wondering if over 20 years later the NFL will change the rule given today’s completely different climate; or perhaps a judge will reverse the ruling and force the NFL to change the rule.
College football is becoming more and more a semi-pro football league and less and less amateurish.
It seems like it could benefit the league if they would let kids enter the draft out of high school and then let them play in a “G-League” just like the NBA has. The 17-game regular season puts more and more stress on the NFL rosters, and the league is supposedly considering adding an 18th game. Having a G-League would provide a constant pool of talent they could pull from when they have injuries. It would be like a practice squad for the entire league but on steroids. You just call someone up from the G-League if you need him.
Anyway, what impact would the have on recruiting? The best players would skip college, and so it might be best to recruit Tier 2 talent that will stick around for 4 years and develop the players. It’s basically what Duke does in basketball quite often.

How many 18 and 19 year olds can compete with the grown arse men running around the NFL fields today. Why would owners want to susidize a minor league when they have a free development source in college football?

Let them all go pro out of high school and see what happens. College is a pay for play wide open free agency fraud.

Read the whole post. They could potentially be forced to let high school kids in if their rule ever gets challenged again in court and struck down.
In this scenario, the G-League could provide a minor league farm to call players up from during the coming 18-game season when injuries pile up. If they have to let the high school kids in, they might as well create a minor league farm system of some kind.

The NFL currently has a farm system that doesn't cost them anything. Why would they change it?

The NFL is laughing all the way to the bank; they like things just the way they are.

These days players will make more money in college than a g league.

Why would the NFL waste money on a minor league when they get talent development free and free player evaluations at the college level. Additionally, they would have to do a draft and still try to compete against college football in which they would loose in viewership alone. I watch college football only, not into the NFL.

No one can force the league owners to draft them

They have no interest in subsidizing a minor league system. College football provides that for free

There will be more injuries. 17 18 yos small frames going against grown developed men, going to punish those kids.

No. Their bodies need to develop.

Having a buch of 17-18 yr olds laying up in ICU would not be a good look for the NFL. At 21 these young men are more mature to understand what they are getting into and dont have a bunch of leach parents on their back.
That is a big NO from me. Baseball and Basketball are just physically different from football.

1. the NFL doesn’t have an age requirement for the benefit of college football.
99.99999% of football players at not physically ready at 18. They don’t care if college football pays players or not.
2. The NFL currently has a free farm system. there are 130+ FBSs teams and them 120+ FCS teams. That’s thousands of players being developed for free and then they come in and cherry pick about 300 a year.

I don’t think it will, but EVERYTHING is run by lawyers, insurance, and MONEY. Freshman, Sophomores, are not physically ready to play with these guys- but it will GUARANTEED be challenged. Look what Jakeem got out of USC for 10games & potential.

Too much money already invested in the college infrastructure for Football.
Try and set up a minor league with the facilities, equipment, support, and money.
It will never work or take a billions of dollars willing to lose money for a very long time

Exactly. They have the perfect set up.

The NFL is getting future prospects trained for almost nothing. Why should they change their rules? Why would the Player’s Union want the changes?

If they make a G-League and move away from colleges you will see a lot of money dry up. These people aren’t spending this amount of money because of their love for these players. It’s them wanting their favorite college to compete and potentially win a championship.
