I read the Wiki article about it and only half-understand it.

I knew that eastern Louisiana seriously used to be part of Florida once upon a time, but it wasn't until about two weeks ago that I heard about how it was sort of briefly an independent country.

It was a brief republic, like Texas.

Louisiana was its own country for about 2 weeks between seceding from the Union and joining the Confederacy. We even had our own flag.

West Florida Republic was a no man's land full of ex-convicts, inbreeders, and child molesters.

Many of the descendants of those original settlers still remain today.

Prove me wrong, LP trash!!!

Its a free country that was invaded and conquered by the tyrant James Madison.

Years later, the prancing homos in Texas stole the RoWF flag, just like they stole the mythos of being an independent country and the cowboy.

Its proof Florida > Texas on all accounts. The only reason Texas is able to perpetuate this laughable lie about cowboys coming from Texas is because another homo named Remmington got is arse beat at a bar by Florida cowboys and pranced over to Texas to frick men and copy and paste Texas on all of his writings on Florida Cowboys.

The Republic of West Florida was in 1810, long before Louisiana seceded.

It seems to have been the consequence of some weird oversight when the US purchased Louisiana from Spain.

it's funny how almost every state has some horseshite tale of woe that they run around telling about how their state is actually better than Texas for xyz reason, but you never really hear Texans explaining why Texas is better than Florida (or wherever). everyone just knows.

Fulmar Skipwith, Carlos Grand Pre’, Reuben Kemper, W.C.C. Claiborne, Aaron Burr, Casa Calvo, Pierre Derbigny, Armand Duplantier, Julien Poydras, Rodney Thomas, Philemon Thomas, Marques de Casa Yrujo, Thomas Jefferson ,James Madison ,Andy Jackson and many others were involved. Skipwith , Duplantier, and Thomas have streets in the BR area named for them.
A good book on the subject, The Rogue Republic, by William C. Davis is a very interesting read.
This topic could make a good movie or mini series.

The United States annexed it into America, so I would assume the US saw it as something. Was it a "real" government? Probably not, but if they declared themselves as a republic, then there you go.

The map you posted looks correct. The map in Wikipedia, which shows it as only the Florida parishes, isn't right.

Look into the Free State of Winston, or the Republic of Winston next.
